I was thinking last night that the AOBR terminators are really really cheap from the warstore. So I thought some more. would it be possible to make a viable all terminator foot army? DISCUSS!!!

I think it could work. With vanilla, you can put 30 terminators on the field. That would screw up someone. Scouts for troop choices, and some predators or whirlwinds in the backfield for fire support.

The place I'm getting hung up with is the HQ choice. Sure the obvious choice might be a library in termie armor. But a chaplain in termie armor is identical to a tactical terminator (storm bolter and power weapon). You could even do a captain in termie armor, if your feeling adventurous. Then there are the special characters. Lysander IS a TH/SS termie, sooooo.....yeah. Vulkan has the same armor as a TH/SS termie, with a str6 power weapon to boot, sooooo....yeah. You could use shrike and have fleeting termies. That would be scary. You could even have both shrike and lysander, so you have a fleeting Lysander. Ouch, that would be painful. Yeah the HQ would probably be the toughest choice in a list such as this.

if you used nothing but AOBR Terminators you will be lacking a lot of special weapons.

get some assault cannons in there and you will be good.

but other then that if you just spam basic Terminators things like plasma spam, melta spam etc is going to hurt you. since you can't outshoot that with stormbolters.

Go with deathwing cause you can get a max of 45 terminators on the board, plus you can mix up the LC, TH/SS, PF, SB and Chain Fist. However you can only do this if you take Belial but this lets take an apothecary and company banner. 5 termies with FNP and 4 TH/SS or 5 LC attacks on the charge!

I wouldn't recommend it. I've played against all terminator and terminator-heavy armies before, and I tend to destroy them.

Terminators are not all-purpose models. They actually have certain things they do well, and certain things they don't do well. You pay a premium for their strengths, which means they're expensive models that still have weaknesses.

Don't get me wrong, terminators are great, but they're not great to build an entire army out of. Their cost means that you can't field many models, and you don't have many points left over to take other units to cover for their faults.

Seattle GT this past weekend a guy brought a full DeathWing.

All units of 5 storm shield and TH.
Belial, obviously.
& then two units of LC terms.

I dont know that I would have it 100% termies and would probably mix in a Dread or two but thats me.

I was thinking about using deathwing (untill the new grey knights come out) so that I could deep strike. I'd get some bits from the war store like a few glaive encarmines for the leaders and or lightning claws, and assault cannons, and deep strike. That way I could at least try to bypass the ap2 weapons on the board or just outright kill it before it became a problem.

Deathwing or Loganwing is the only way to go. Deathwing is pretty weak right now, I don't know about Loganwing.

If I played vanilla marines, I wouldn't do it.

I have faced an all Space Wolf termie list and I killed that force in 3 turns with my CSM list. Sure their tough and slow but make great targets for Havocs and hvy vehicles to pick off as basic weapons take em out up close. Finish them off when their weak with Close Combat, works every time for me.

It's better than it used to be, but Loganwing is insane.

I would imagine that aside from lower model count because of costs the other glaring weakness of Terminators is simply torrent of fire. No matter how good the save you're eventually going to have to fail one. Imagine a 50 man blob of conscripts pumping out shots at a 5 man squad of Termies. Even the lowly str 3 las gun can kill a Terminator if you roll a 1. If you have to roll multiple saves per model those 1's are going to come up.

If you could get them FNP somehow, they would be pretty beastly, but I don't think that there is a way to do that for Loganwing. You could run at least 2 BA Terminator squads with FC and FNP.

Footslogging Termie lists will go down really fast. I played Deathwing a few times with my excess terminators and I must say, my Dreadnoughts and Land Raiders really made a difference. The "Oh gak" factor alone due to the raider (I actually field 2 in 1500 lists) draws away so much firepower from the termies that the opponent usually cant get a good enough counter before I get into CC with them.

If you use the AoBR Termies, see if you can convert some claws onto those fists for some cheap Lightning Claws. Extra Chainswords glued onto them can also make a few Chainfists for anti-tank work. 38 points for a Wolf Guard in termie armor with Storm bolter and Lighting Claw is pretty awesome. You'd still need to drum up some of the other special weapons though.

no, the whole point is to get a 1500pt effective marine army for under 150 bucks. Though I do like the idea of deathwing with half the termies in land raiders and half deep striking in first turn.
