Is it worth adding Screamers to an otherwise typical Tallyman list just to pop mech?? Obviously they don't raise the Tally-but then killing armour doesn't either...

Screamers aren't ideal, especially in a list that depends on Nurgle units getting in and killing. If you're looking for tank hunter belonging to another ruinous power, Fiends, with their 6 (charging) attacks at S5 and rending will be much better for hunting almost any kind of tank, given their 19-24" charge range. Just remember to drop them behind an allied unit with an icon to keep their saves up until the last possible moment. Alternatively, Bloodcrushers are better against rear armour 10 and 11, if you can get close, because they assault at S6, and aren't as squishy as Fiends.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

I think not allowing chaos god dedication for the soul grinder was the saddest part of the codex.

You want the Princes to build up the tally. They are most suited for that task in an Epidemius list. Thats where their movement, and number of attacks come in.

Sure they can crack transports, but they'll be facing rapid firing content the turn after. You want something to crack the transport so that the Princes can assault the juicy contents as soon as possible.

This is why I think you could use some non-Nurgle units in an Epidemius list. Preferably Tzeentch.
Because of the role you want filled a Herald of Tzeentch on a Chariot with Bolt and Master is a very suitable third HQ choice (next to a GUO and Epidemius). Since Nurgle Elites suck you can consider Flamers with Bolt in that slot to fullfill an AT role.

Screamers do well, but they can't open a transport before the Prince has to declare his charge. So in the stricktest sense they aren't suited to fullfill the role that is most needed. However, 3 Screamers are very cheap, offer a threat to artilery and heavy tanks and can contest an objective with a final turn turboboost. They are very uselfull when you have 48 points spare. Even in a Nurgle list.

My thinking went like this.....

It would need to be a unit that worked against armour (duhh) but as popping tanks doesn't count towards the Tally, it shouldn't be a DP, and needn't be a Nurgle unit. I shouldn't consider anything that would compete with any Nurgle units (even Beast of Nurgle!!)-and that basically left me with Seekers, Screamers or Flesh Hounds. Hounds and Seekers are, in a vacuum, better than Screamers, and I thought about Screamers as the choice for this role..

The problem is that seekers are too good!! This might sound odd, but I know for a fact I wouldn't be content to just use them as anti tank units and that would reduce the tally. Screamers, for me, fit the bill perfectly. They are fast, and compared with Hound I lose 1 I and 1 A..(ok, and furious charge..but still). As a simple "throwaway" Tank buster unit, I reckon they'd be great.

I have to say, I didn't consider a Bolt Herald. In my head I had a HQ of Epidemus, GUO and Herald of Nurgle. So maybe dumping the GUO for a couple of Nurgle Heralds, plus a bolt Herald on a Disc might be the way forward..

The only other way I can see of beating armour in a Tallyman list would be to take Kugath for his Necrotic Missiles and Nurgling Infestation..but he's a huge investment; maybe the way forward in a big army
