I was thinking, you need a bruiser to lead so 130 point minumum, a butcher is practically amust so another 130 minimum, but if you take a ogre battle standered bearer, your paying a 155 point minimum, whereas most armies pay like 60-100. If you take one of em standerds your hero cost goes to 405 without any magical stuff, mundane gear, and ogre big names. Im jsut wondering if these guys are worth it for an ogre army below anything 2500 points. If so how do you make it work?

Hell Yea.
the Reroll of Ld based tests is priceless, especially when you have so few models. Magic wargear comes second.
you use a Tyrant for your General, then a BSB. then a naked Slaughtermaster(better then a tooled up Butcher), then a Butcher if affordable.
i usually run my Tyrant being really tooled up for defense(Mawseeker, Tricksters helm, CLS)
the BSB always has Mawseeker. he usually has the Tali of Endurance.
SM usually has the Bloodcleaver.
Butcher always has Grut's Sickle.
this gives me 350 points minimum in Hero's. thats good for 1400 point games and above. more points and i give the Butcher the Channeling Staff.
for Lords i usually tool the Tyrant up(that build i gave costs 272 points) and run the SM with Bloodcleaver. that means it's minimum 2k points for this build, but you can drop the SM and get another butcher.

Considering the sm has more range then the butcher, and in the new rules there not really creating any more power dice, i have not played in years, (when i was like 10 so i would not know, that and i actually have not read the eigth edition), wouldnt you really only need 1 caster?. So that being said tyrant, sm, and standered probly seem the best to me.

Having a backup caster in higher point games is nice for any army, there is this pesky "broken concentration" rule that wizards need to worry about this eddition.

BSB is a must. In my deathstar, the leadership 9 reroll is awesome. Throw the crown of command on the BSB and you've got a ld9 stubborn unit that your enemy has to man to get out of his/her face.
I run my spellcasters naked but yeah, you need redundancy for gutmagic to work. You spam spells 'til they run out of dispell dice then you through your trollguts or toothcracker.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

You need more then one caster because each additional caster is another copy of every Gutmagic spell.
with a SM and Butcher i can get up to 2 of each buff on my Deathstar each turn. with Grut's Sickle it becomes even easier.
and, yes, they do stack so you can have T5, T6, or even T10 ogres. same goes for Str. Trollguts doesn't give additional benifit, but it does increase the amount of dispells needed to get rid of the Regen and MR.

Yes, the Ogre FAQ did for us what the BT FAQ did for them.
and the FAQ is MANDATORY when playing with them. opponents will want proof you can do these things.

Ozomoto - the FAQs have changed pretty much every army, so to avoid embarassment in the future I'd suggest checking them....
Hell, Dragon Armour is no longer fire immunity, "just" a 2+ ward save...
