Tyranids have been Possessed before. The Imperium poisons Tyranids all the time with viruses and what not, and they have nothing on Grand-Pappy Nurgle.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole |

Tyranids will actively avoid plague worlds, giving them a wide birth.

In the SW series they find some nids on a Space Hulk (Actual nids not just genestealers) and they are all sick presumably from the random chaos artifact they were guarding.

I've tried to explore this idea before, which resulted in a few models of zombie nids. Personally I think the idea of some sort of biological disease (not neccessarily a warp influenced one) might be tolerated by the hive mind as long as it was useful to it, like any adaptation. I've no doubt that it would be able to swiftly purge it from its systems before it spread should it wish to. However I can see it lasting long enough to embue a certain amount of nids with a FNP type effect, say until they were all re-absorbed.

Wouldn't any tyranids infected by Nurgle plagues just die? Either from the Hive Mind flipping a sort of kill switch in the individual 'nids, or, you know, the actual plagues, since that's kind of what plagues do. The Hive Mind wouldn't tolerate disease within the hive fleets, especially if it were caused by Nurgle.

My follow up question, given the op's idea that zombie nids are a potential outcome, is why would the hive mind necessarily do this? If they were no longer under control, then fine. If it conferred a potential advantage I don't think it's so clear cut.

I get the feeling that as long as the disease wasnt extremely fast spreading the hive mind would cope with it untill it addapted to immunity, then use the infected as a first wave attack OR just leave them behind on a planet and not reabsorb their biomass after they have finished the planet off?
