I use Rosemary & Co. Sable brushes. every bit as good as Windsor & Newton(which are regarded as the best in the business) at in most cases half the price.

You can get 10/0 fine detail brushes for like $3 as opposed to $7-13 for W&N ones.

I just use white nylon or golden taklon for most of my painting. Nice brushes will make your life easier, but an amazing brush in unskilled hands won't magically give you great results, which is why I'm sticking with my craft store brushes until they start to go, after which I'll upgrade.

The best brushes are sable, but like aerethan said, they don't need to be W&N Series 7 to be quality, that just guarantees that they are (with a price tag to match the promise).

I use Princeton brushes. I have waisted lots on money trying to find brushes I really liked. When I discovered how well the Princeton brushes glide I went back to the art store and bought all of the remaining stock. Needless to say I have about 20 brand new 10/0 and 18/0 fine tip brushes ready for use now

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

When I first got into wargaming (about 2 years ago) I bought a whole bunch of games workshop brushes including the basecoat brush, small dry brush, tank brush, standard brush and fine detail brush oh and a large brush. They have all served me very well and the only brushes that have worn out are the basecoast and dry brush mainly because of a lack of knowledge on how to use them. I dont paint to a golden daemon level but the quality it quite alright. I havnt really looked at any other paint brushes but this thread has opened my eyes.

dont think of me as a noob, these serve me well and my level of qaulity is higher than most around my area (im not trying to blow my own trumpet but they really are better... x.x the horror OH THE HORROR! [alas the problems with buying in bulk])

anyway i occasonally go into shops such as book stores that are a bit "loose" with the products they sell, and thus also sell art supplies, i occasonally get brushs from here but my best bargins i have found are actually cheepo discount packs at my local B&M or Home Bargins (if your in the uk you might know these stores) which come with a veriaty of brushs including some high qaulity very fine detail, now your looking at 1mm long bristles at about a .3mm thickness to the head, and for £1 for a pack of 12 its worth it when ive seen these exact brushs in art stores for £15-20 and i normally get two-three more brushs out of it to a smaller (equal or greater standard than gw [ive used enough]) or equal size to fine detail brushs

so its always worth looking at discount packs, oh and what do i do with the rest of them? i give them to my mum for the grandkids, there to big for anything id want, to small for walls, so perfect for the lil-uns ^^ so its always worth looking into discount packs even if they dont last (ive had a few that havent, and like 5 that are still going strong over a year on)

I use Winsor&Newton Series 7, or Raphael 8404 or 8408 brushes... the tips on these are just so excellent, they really make painting a breeze. Size 2, 1, and 0 are really all you need.

Actually ASW is doing their crazy brush sale right now too btw:

I mainly use the Citadel brushes and Reaper brushes. I like them both. I really, really like the 'drybrush' brushes from Citadel. They are pretty unique and give a really good effect, in my opinion.

Windsor and Newtons here as well. I have tried many other but have never seen anything to beat em.
Sure, they are a bit pricey but mine have lasted me 2 years now and are still in excellent shape. So when you break it down they really arent any more expensive.
