First of all by a long time I mean since third edition. I keep reading that the new FAQ's make Dark Angels and Black Templars much better, but am not certain what exactly the big deal is.

I think part of it is that I am simply not familiar enough with the current rules, but the big change that I noticed was the Storm Shield change.

Can someone come up with a coles notes version of why the Templars are much better now for this old guy? I'm building an army right now based on the Templars and don't have any immediate plans to get into playing again but I am curious.

Thanks for any help.

BTs have some of the perks leftover from the 3rd and 4th edition style codexes (namely the Armoury options and altered FoC) They were only weak because their stuff were rather dated (namely, the Storm Shield and Apothecary stuff). With these updates, the SS/TH Sword Brethren Terminators became incredibly powerful, as now they can survive the first wave of attacks and use their hammers to full effect. Same goes for Characters selecting the Storm Shield. A 3+ invul save goes a long way, and Feel No Pain makes your units near-impossible to put down.

FnP is largely the reason DAs are considered somewhat good again. A squad of Terminators led by Belial with Lighting claws and a Term Chap, while the entire squad has the Command Squad upgrade (so +1 attack all around and FnP) makes it a roving death star. Termies are hard enough to put down with their 2+ save, but with a possible 3+ save and FnP on top of all of that, they're unstoppable. Plus, they can be taken as troops, so they can cap objectives as well.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Thanks for the insight. I didn't know that the Dark Angels could take termies as troops, but it should have dawned on me since they have the Deathwing.
