Which are actually worth taking?

I'm trying to put an army together. A lot of them sound neat but I'm not sure they'll actually do all that much =/

that plus 2 x big shoota for weapon destroyed results. Very resilient with a kff mek.

Just remember that it really matters how many points you are playing at and what your list will contain, plus number of BWs you will be fielding.

At least, a Deffrolla and a Big Shoota is mandatory.

What does your list look like?

If it is a rolla wagon, I actually go against my usual advice of not taking armor plates. I also recommend riggers for rolla wagons. Both since the main weapon of the thing is the ramming, and anything that is a result causing you to not move effectively equals weapon destroyed on a single weapon tank.

I don't recommend anything else other than a couple of guns to keep weapon destroyed results from immobilizing it. Red paint job is kinda meh for its points. Its not terrible if you have nothing else to spend it on though.

I agree with everything except red paint. 5points for an inch of movement on a vehicle that has to get across the board is a steal!

Have you ever ended up an inch short? 5 points can fix that.

I think we'd all pay that for an extra inch.

Must have:
1 Big Shoota
Deff Rolla

Good to have:
Boarding Plank (upgrades to "Must Have" if you think you're going to run into a lot of Vehicles)
RPJ
Grot Riggers

Take it or leave it:
Everything else

Yeah, the one big take away is that the number of upgrades decreases points that could be spread around your army list and possibly reduce your flexibility or model count or even upgrades that other units would of taken.

Do I go for 60 points of extra upgrades on the other BWs, or do I give my KFF Big Mek a Powerklaw and add in a few other doo-dads to my Nobs?

I agree completely on this one. I too am not a fan of RPJ. As notabot said, if I have 5 extra points sure, if not, nope never take it

Deffrolla+RPJ+RIGGAS+Armor plates+as many big shootas as you can afford after buying the rest of your army.

If, for some reason you have enough extra points after all of the above, than take the Kill Kannon. you probably wont fire it at all in the game, but if the BW gets Immobalized, it becomes a Template launching Turret! that being said, if you have enough points to buy a Kill kannon, you can probably afford another small unit of boyz instead.

I'll be running it as a delivery tank for my Mega Nobs (please discuss their viability elsewhere) and a Mek with a KFF and Grot Oiler.

Battle Wagon + Armour Plates + Grot Riggers + Reinforced Ram + Big Shooter + Zzap Attack Gun (I love them).

135

Think thats ok?

No, deffrolla is mandatory.

GW missed one thing on the Ork Faqs... They forgot the Errata that states that all BW come with a Deff Rolla but now cost 110 points... luckily Ork players everywhere realized their error, forgave them and play as if the errata existed...

Rolla Wagons (Deffrolla and Big Shoota) when done with a lot of target saturation is good enough. Without the target saturation, red paint job, armor plates, and grot riggas are desired.

Boarding planks and grabbin klaws are needed if you have no way to deal with skimmers outside of ramming them. The 3+ save to ignore our ramming means that we must have other ways of blowing them out of the sky (or at least stunning/immobilizing them)

I have to admit, I miss the old Infantry battles of 4E compared to this 5E wonderland of APCs/IFVs everywhere. It's like we jumped from WWI to WWII.

For transport, you need:
Deffrolla
grot riggers
bigshoota
armour plates
Also useful:
Boarding plank
RPJ, I guess. I don't really use them because they don't go with my army theme, but take um if ya want um.

For turret battlewagon o' doom:
Killkannon
bigshoota
A bunch of lootas in the wagon, shooting out a feth load of shots because of open-topped.

Bigshootas on both variants are for not leaving you crippled from weapon destroyed results; you probably won't fire them otherwise, because with the transport mode you will be moving at crusing spead, and battlewagons arn't fast, and the turret battlewagon o' doom, killkannon is ordnance, so it's the only weapon you can fire.

I'm going to go with the bare minimum as being this. You should have it all, but i listed them in descending order of importance in case you are really strapped for points.

deff rolla (well, its just not that good of a vehicle without it. This piece of gear really defines the vehicle)

big shoota (not having one doubles your chances of getting an immobilized result, which for all intents and purposes, is a wrecked result)

armor plates (this piece of wargear helps facilitate the ramming and the ork/nob delivery, which is the best thing about the vehicle)

grot riggers (it is important enough as a vehicle that it could get immobilized and be worth repairing, and its fast enough that it could recover from an early game immobilization and ram some vehicles in the later turns)
