Okay, so at the moment I'm running a Captain with Artificer Armour, A Storm Bolter and Storm shield, and his Command Squad is kitted out with all Storm bolters and Storm Shields (except the Apothecary of course).
I was wondering if I should replace the Storm Shield with a Relic Blade, seeing as he already has a 4+ Invulnerable Save from the Iron Halo. I would possibly add jump packs to the Captain and his Squad as well to add a little bit more of an advantage when it comes to manoeuvrability. I love my Storm Bolters, so I'm reluctant to let go of them at best.

Really this is a question of which combination you would prefer and why.

So what's your verdict? I have yet to properly try him out, so I can't really judge him on his actual effectiveness.

EDIT: Just looked in the codex and saw that you cannot give Command Squads jump packs, so that option is not as appealing any more.

Why would you give your captain a stormbolter? It's a 3 point upgrade (annoying number) and totally wastes his potential as a close combat badass. Jump pack, relic blade, artificer armor and a storm shield is a build I use occasionally on my captains, and it works fairly well. It's just pricey.

Okay, but what squad do you suggest he joins? I can't have a Command Squad with Jump Packs so I need something else. Normal Assault Squad? Vanguard Veterans?

I just have him run with assault Marines. Vanguards are too expensive.
