Hey guys I just starting WHFB cause I'm tired of all the Blood Angel, Space Wolve, and IG bs that is 40k. My friend and I just split the Island of Blood box set, and we both plan on expanding our forces asap. My friend says he wants his army to include in 1000 pts:
Noble on Horse w/ GW
3 light calvary w/ bows and spears
7 swordmasters
25 sea guardw/ bows and spears
2 mages
eagle
BT
I am trying to figure out what units would be good to fight against HE. To kill the BT I was thinking of maybe using gutter runners but is there a better way? Also how should I go about fighting his sea guard eagle and swordmasters? Drown them in slaves or clanrats and maybe use ratling guns? I really want to have magic in my army as I will be playing against O&G, beastmen, and Dwarves, but is our magic strong enough to not just be dispelled every turn by HE?
Thanks in advance.

Rat Ogres could do a number on them. He'll probably try to keep his seaguard in a deep formation for ranks and multiple attacks, so war machines and weapon teams work well.
Then again, pushing the screaming bell into them would crunch some elves too. Remember this: His troops are a lot more expensive than yours.

Basically its pretty easy to kill high elves... Throw slaves at his swordmasters to bog them down for a few turns (they eat them up relatively fast)
Ratling guns are probably one of the worst units in the book because you still have to roll to hit. Id use mortars or even the new doomflayer since it has a model now
Anything with impact hits hurts HE pretty badly oh and any shooting S4 or above!
Buy the new warp lightning cannon and watch his units evaporate

I didn't realize at first that the Ratling needed to roll to hit. It is at least 15 points overpriced for what it does.
Definitely use the stormbanner on a unit of Plague Monks, Stormvermin, or the BSB. It always screws up shooting.
I never see the doomflayer catapult on anyone's list, but I think it has potential. If I am nt mistaken, it uses the large blast template, so that's a pretty big area. The new rules encourage deep ranks in blocks. All the better.

doomflayer = weapon team, plagueclaw catapult is what you're thinking of.

Nice thanks guys, Ill definitely being employing stormvermin and I'll probably get a plagueclaw catapault too. So is it completely unfeasable to use a grey seer on a bell against HE, cause I wanna use magic but I don't if it's at all possible against them.

Very possible.
They may be at +6 to dispel, but they are low toughness and low armour saves, in general, so magic can be great against them. Just watch out for phoenix guard with the MR2 banner...2+ ward saves against spell wounds is not good!
