Insect-Infested Nurgle Chaos Lord

So polishing off my Court of Young Kings army, I want to turn to Fantasy for a while. Most of my Fantasy armies have been largely based off sets I got as deals in the past, a large horde of cheap Tomb Kings Chariot and various deals on metal models, discount on Bretonnian knights and Louen, as well as two good deals on Ogre Battalions on Ebay. Now that I have a reliable supplier that gives me more reasonable prices, I can start any army I wish. However since I already own a ton of models, I can only afford one more army for the forseeable future (there are still some small gaps to fill in for my other 40k armies).

I'm a converter at heart and really dont play competitively. However I would like an army that has both conversion possibilities and can still hold it's own in a fight. I also tend to go with themes and gimmicks alot (like a full Death Company army, or Deathwing Terminators, or Mono-Khorne Daemons). Some of the possible armies I've considered are:

Warrior's of Chaos. I just love the Chaos Lord on Juggernaught model, as well as Trogg's rules allowing for a whole army of monstrous infantry. I also adore the Chaos Warrior models and the Chaos Knights. On top of that, I can make Chaos Ogres which can double as Maneaters in my Ogre Army.

Skaven. Love everything about the book. The characters seem fun and the models are just awesome, especially the warmachines and Hellpit abomination. However they have alot of details which I do not look forward to painting, nor do I like painting drove after drove of rats. I can consider a Rat Ogre army led by Throt or a Stormvermin army led by Queek (although the former appeals to me more as I can make a whole Moulder Clan army based around Rat ogres and the Hellpit abomination).

Vampire Counts. Something about raising hordes of zombies during a game is just really fun to do. Same issue with Skaven. I also love the blood Knights, but need cheaper alternatives for them (120 bucksfor 5 models is nowhere near reasonable).

Lizardmen. Who doesnt love dinos? The Slanns are also one of the models I'd love to paint up. However I dont know if they're good at competitive combat, since the other races seems to be able to do what they do better. The models I like are also rather expensive (even after my supplier's discount).

Personally my fav out of the 4 is Chaos Warriors. However it feels like it wont hold my interest for as long as the others, so I might end up regretting the purchase only a few months afterward. Skaven will likely have me interested for a long time, and I can get the models cheaply. However I really, really dont like repetitve painting, and there's something about them that makes me hesitant (I think it's the lack of monstrous infantry). Vampire Counts and Lizardmen are lower on the list since both are somewhat restrictive for converting (zombies really cant get cheaper or more interesting than the basic zombie pack, and anything else would require me to be meticulous about detail). Any insight would be appreciated.

Go Throgg. Each model can be completely different and they are big enough you can convert without going crazy. 2 headed trolls or 4 armed ogres. Whatever you want.

I think Lizardmen are extremely competitive. They're about as good at magic as you can get, have crazy beasts+handlers, very tough heavy infantry. They just don't really do the high tech war machines if you're into cannons and such.

I would recommend doing some more searching on here. I think there is a thread about building an elite skaven army which would keep your model count down. Also check out the army lists section, RiTides has a cool WoC monster list as do some other people. I think either army will give you the most opportunities to convert and play around with, but there are suppose to be rules coming out to join the chaos factions together which would allow you to play around with demons and beastmen too. My personal vote would be for WoC.

dwarfs, wood elves, dark elves, bretonnians, WOC,
space wolves, orks, eldar

So far two votes for WoC. I also have a Daemon Army (made from the daemon elements that I had prior to the 4th ed Chaos Marine Codex with some new plastic sets) and if I can merge them with WoC, then I think I'll go that route.

As a converter myself (started off with magnetising IG tanks and went nuts from there) i must say lizardmen are epic fun to make, they have one of the best monster kits and so many other charracterful models (aside from out cold ones but i plan on swapping those out for DE ones) that it makes me drool with anticipation on what i'm planning to do with them, and to top it all off dino toys are all over the place.
Not only that but onlt days after picking LM as my first fantasy army i found out they're considered one of the most powerfull armies out there, mi thought at the time was "Bonus!!!".

My main gripe with Lizardmen are that the models I like (Carnosaur, Slann, and kroxigor) are really expensive, while the ones that are cheap (Cold One Knights) look really dated. =(

Yea the expensive thing is true due to the being big and metal, and as i said our cold ones are crap, i personally love the stegadon kit and saurus and skinks are fun, but if you want awesome in the lizardmen line you really should get your hands on some temple guard they're literally dripping with coolness.

Is it possible to have Temple Guard as a Core Choice? I would love an army made up of elite models (I play Nids right now, so it's horde all the way. Elite army would be a nice change of pace).

Sadly no, but as far as elite armies with fewer models on the table go LM are pretty top (with all warrior WoC being the top), it's just a matter of fantasy having more models in general.

Lol I think I'll go with WoC then. My original intention was going with only WoC, Chosen and Knights, with Trolls, Ogres, Dragon Ogres and Shaggoths filling out a support role.
