Hey there everyone,

I just got an Iwata HP-CS airbrush and a Smart Jet compressor and am totally ready to start covering my surroundings in paint! The only thing stopping me is that I'm not sure what to use as a dilution agent for Citadel paints.

I have heard of a wide range of agents from water to commercially sold dilution agents and even Windex! Hopefully some of you guys can help!

Also if possible could you include any mixing ratios for the agents that you all use. I understand that everyone has different preferences when it comes to paint consistency, but any and all information is helpful!

Thanks again!

Erik

windex 1:1 with paint which should already be thinned somewhat after you buy it.

Put in the windex first so the paint doesn't settle to the bottom.

Hey I've got that same AB & Compressor setup... anyway; forget about the idea of a perfect ratio... it's not applicable. Every pot of paint is different from the next, especially with Citadel that have a tendency to dry so fast, and certain colors also have more pigment than others (yellow always has less for example because it's expensive to make). So, my point is, every time you thin your 'mix' for airbrushing it might require different amounts of thinner... even with 'air' paints like Vallejo Model Air.

I would personally recommend using a proper AB medium, like Liquitex AB medium or Golden AB medium... both available at any art store. These are ultimately the best choice for thinning acrylic paints and especially for a beginner they will make your life easier because they don't evaporate as fast as alcohol or windex, thus keeping your tip wetter longer - making the experience easier and more enjoyable.

Awesome, thank you guys for the info.

Also I forgot to ask exactly what type of paint the Citadel line is. Thank you Gunzhard for mentioning acrylics.

I also realized that there was another air brushing thread on this forum so I'll probably skulk around there for a while trying to absorb what I can from you all.

Thanks again!
