Well... Title says it all.

Considering http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1640543a_KrakensJaws.pdf (registration required), do the Blood Angels become the new Ultramarines in Red?

Because of how good GW has made all the SM models they have released with each updated Codex I can't make up my mind on who to choose.

The Rout, Vlka Fenryka, Warrior Kings of Fenris.... the Space Wolves. Horus Heresy. Sixth Great Company. 1500pts. In progress.

I think Ultra's will always remain the Posterboys for 40K. The reasoning behind all the Blood Angles stuff on the website is because of the Stormraven and Furioso Release. Space hulk has always been about Blood Angels, even back when it was first released, so that can't be considered a reason for them to be changing the mascot.
If you look at the past editions, Crimson Fists were used for the cover art for the Space Marine Battle Force, and Black Templar were featured on the box for the 3rd Edition Started set.

This is a game. It has many flavors of armies. Some appeal to us individually more than others.

IF GW got rid of all space marines tomorrow (regardless of color) the internet cool guys would find another army to annoint "the poster boys111" and start nerdraging about within minutes.

While Ultramarines have been on the front of two editions the Crimson Fists, Blood Angels and Black Templars have appeared the others. In fact the Crimson Fists appeared a fair bit for 3rd ed as they were on the codex (IIRC) and the battleforce box.

I recall when Blood Angels were on everything, they were all over Space Hulk too, on the cover and all the painted examples. In fact every edition has been blood angels apart from the Deathwing expansion. When they were going through their red phase, Blood Angels featured heavily in 40K and Epic. Red everywhere.

I really wouldn't read into the color shirt their wearing. Also, holy hell, grammar.

Blood Angels just recently got pictures for a bunch of Space Marine units because they didn't want to confuse any new players. If you're shopping for Blood Angels and all of a sudden you see a bunch of blue guys, you might assume they're not for your army. It's just marketing; don't read into it any more than that.

As a Blood Angels player, I hope the hype subsides soon. I chose to collect the Blood Angels because I have been fascinated by them for 10 years. It is dubious to think that the Ultramarine wonderboys will be supplanted by any other chapter as the posterboy's of the game. Occasionally a chapter receives alot of attention from GW (black templar back in 05' comes to mind), but eventually, the attention is always redirected to Ultramarines and I would expect the same to happen this time around. That being said...Red is heads and shoulders cooler, more athestically pleasing, and is categorized better than the blue ones

A galaxy far far away

I don't think they will be replaced, Ultras are the baseline chapter.

For GW to make Vampire Marines the defualt choice would confuse people getting into the game. But as was said, does it really matter?

The reason Ultras are on every box is cause Blue is the easest colour for newbies to paint, the blue range is(used to be anyway) quite extensive and makes it easy to get started with.

But again, its just a game, does it matter who is on the front of all the boxes?

In seriousness I think the blood angels are on the cover because they are the most recent sculpts GW have put out for any space marines. The Sanguinary Guard are excellent plastics so it's no surprise they want to show them off.

I agree with these statements. BA may be getting loads of attention now, but soon they'll release more Ultrasmurf stuff and the hype will die down.

The Blood angels as poster boys? Bah.

It's the Ultramarines. Every time you hate them, they increase in status and push your favorite codex back. If your hate is pure enough, they will even steal your codex's cooler special rules. It is whispered that if your hate them with all your being, you will be taken by madness and become one of them.

I dont read the Black Library novels, so I cant assume that the whole vampiric aspect of the Blood Angels is discussed in them, but it seems that GW has stopped perpetuating the possibility/idea of them being vampires. There is hardly any reference to it in the newest edition of the codex and where it is mentioned the author leaves this matter ambiguous and hazy. There is also the mention of the Blood Angels trying to be discredited by someone. I think GW is trying to slowly change the image of the BA perhaps. Although Astorath sure looks like a futuristic vampire

Why is popular uncool?
I think shoes are popular, they're also pretty cool. I like being able to walk across gravel without it hurting.
But OT the BA are getting attention because they are out new, in a few months it'll be GK etc etc
