When do you think the next Dark Angels update will be?

12th of Never.

Seriously, lets says this is the lineup,
Necrons
Nuns
Eldar
Black Templar
Orks
SPESH MUREEHNS
Tyranids
Dark Angels

so if we take my (personal) opinion on whats coming and when, then 2-3 years, if were lucky

Still to be updated from 3rd edition we have

Daemonhunters (Soon)
Witchhunters
Necrons

4E books older than Dark Angels
Tau
Black Templars
Eldar

Books about the same timeframe but with larger playerbases and more issues
Chaos Space Marines.

So, I'd wager sometime after the 3E books, probably after Tau as well, and then BT's, Eldar, DA and CSM's will probably be somewhere in the lineup together, I'd guess 2013, maybe 2nd half of 2012.

Not any time soon. They probably FAQ them into usability since they are going to put it off for longer than expected.

I think you have a wait ahead of you. Really I wish GW would just get to work on updating their books. Especially, those that haven't seen an update since 3rd edition. I understand why they would want to trickle them out (to take advantage of the bandwagon jumping) and I don't fault them for that. It's a business after all. But, waiting multiple editions to see your army revised is very disheartening for most. My main army is Blood Angels so I can't complain much but I also have a sizable Chaos Marine Nurgle army that has been shelved since that abomination of a codex was released.

The last I have heard (from above retail-level) is that all marine codexes will be updated before the end of 2012.

I'd be really curious to know how many customers they lose due to people getting frustrated waiting for updates vs getting new people.

I dunno, if they released 4 or so codex's a year then it wouldn't be bad. But it seems like they're hardly scraping 2 by a year. Daemonhunters soon, then rumored Necrons Oct/Nov, I highly doubt we'll see a third this year.

Also would be nice when they release a codex if they had all the models for the new units ready... *COUGH TYRANIDS COUGH* its not like that books been out for over a year and still missing like 5-6 models

Total Finecast models purchased: 5
Total models without Finecast issues out of those purchased: 0

I'm pretty sure they learned their lesson the first time around. Alessio and Gav know what they did was poorly received, and Alessio admits he took the streamlining approach too far.

The approach wasn't an issue for DA's, DA's for a year were actually very good, and didn't really lose anything. The approach was an issue for Chaos Space Marines because they gutted more than half of the previous book and implemented their "streamlining" rather poorly, resulting in awkard inconsistencies of basic Troops getting more gifts from their gods than Daemon Princes, Terminators elites, and Chaos Lords, etc.

The problem with Dark Angels came when Codex: Space Marines 2008 was released, and did almost all the same stuff, but with better wargear, cheaper, tons of new stuff, and a ton of characters.

As a templar player, the FAQ update (while awsome) has me concerned.

I think that we could be in for a LONG wait, now that the immediate problems of the BT and DA have been addressed.

That aside - get in line! We're first!

BT will likely be the next marine codex up for update (depending whether or not GW considers SoBs to be a Marine codex for the purpose of updating). GW recently are trying to make all of their codexes in the new format.

DA was still relatively holding up when C:SM got released since they could still field all-terminator armies and their terminators had mixed options. The final nail in the coffin was Loganwing and the SW update.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
