Personally I have heard good things about nurgle army, but personally the thing I hate the most is anything with Boon of Mutation, it wouldn't hurt to get a couple soul grinders as well.

Daemons are a tough army to play, but they are incredibly fun. The cool thing about Daemons is that most units in the book are viable which leads to very little consensus on the "best" way to run them. Obviously people point to the FateCrusher build I have had success with an entirely different build. The list of questions a Daemon player must answer:
1. How are you going to get ranged anti tank?
You don't need to be able to crack land raiders and predators from a distance, but you generally have to be able to crack some light transports open to assault the juicy goodness inside. Daemons are a fragile close combat army, so wasting valuable turns assaulting transports and getting shot up then assaulted isn't good. Your choices for ranged anti tank are: Chariots of Tzeentch with bolt, Horrors with Bolt, Tzeentch Daemon Prince with bolt, and Soul Grinders. Obviously it's pretty Tzeentch heavy.
2. What kind of troops are you running?
The troop choices of Daemons are varied and specialized. Horrors can shoot, but are expensive and fragile in close combat. Plaguebearers are cheap and incredibly durable, but provide little to no offense. Daemonettes are fast with lots of rending attacks, but have the lowest toughness and save combo of the troops. Bloodletters hit hard but are slow and have no grenades.
3. How to HQ?
There are a whopping 15 HQ choices in the Daemons codex. You can take up to 4 depending on what kind you take. Most of them are potent. Some are very expensive. Do you want a focal point (like a Bloodthirster or Keeper of Secrets) or support (Heralds, Masque) or a force multiplier (Fateweaver, Epidermus)?
4. Elites?
The Elite section is one of the strongest in the book. I personally love Fiends and they do my heavy lifting, but Blood Crushers are a favorite or many. Flamers are fun but very all or nothing.
Overall, these are the questions I think that Daemon players need to answer. Do you have a theme in mind? I personally attempted to keep my list confined to 2 gods (Slanessh and Tzeentch). Mono god is cool but very tough to run.

Androgynous Daemon Prince of Slaanesh
|
I have had great luck with Flamers: run them in units of 3, but no more because otherwise their templates will fall on top of each other the turn they DS. Plus 3 will run you 105 points-which is a broken unit as that unit of three can and will take out a full 200+ pt. unit of terminators. Fiends, in a unit of 6 (one with unholy might) is also a great go. I also enjoy Slaanesh and Nurgle Daemon princes, Plaguebearers and Bloodletters as troops and Seekers for fast attacks. I bounce around a lot with HQ choices, but Skulltaker is always nice in a unit of Bloodletters, the Masque can really pull your opponents around and pull them out of cover or into charge range for your big nasties, and Fateweaver grants your army a ton of very necessary re-rolls. Bloodcrushers are great too, but stay away from Beasts of Nurgle!! I can't stress this enough-they suck. Daemon Princes of Khorne are also worthless models-their "bonuses" make them look like the 4-year old legless cousin of a Bloodthirster. If you take Daemon Princes OR Soul Grinders, take them in a full set of three. Do NOT mix and match. I've won plenty of tournaments, local and out of town, with daemons, and I feel comfortable with what I've told you. Many people expect tzeentch heralds and tzeentch princes, but I haven't used them yet: and it's worked wonders for me so far. Trust me, make Fiends and Flamers your friends though. You're going to need them.

I wouldn't recommend that.......
Even if your tournament is 4 weeks away, unless you play 3/4+ games a week, you really aren't going to get the hang of them, i don't think there an army you can just pick up ad expect to get any results with immediately.
