so anyways battle is pitched battle annihilation. he rolled first turn and opted to go first. thats fine by me i prefer to go 2nd. his army spread out along his entire board edge. on his side from left to right: landraider with typhus, marines, defiler, chosen, marines, marines, sorcerer, predator, vindicator. I set up in a denied flank attack on the same side as his landraider. 2 monoliths with destroyers, wraiths, and lord in front of them. the flayed ones infiltrated in front of those. to the left of the monos is the nightbringer, with all the warriors next to him along with the immortals, pariahs, and tomb spyders. there is a river running lengthwise down the entire board that counted as dangerous terrain, and a bridge in the middle of that. i failed to seize the initiative so off we go!
Chaos turn 1:
The entire chaos army surged forward basically straight. the predator fired a lascannon at the immortals, sending it down to the ground in a new form: slag. no other casualties were taken from the chaos, although they fired plenty!
Necron turn 1: The entire army moved forward. The 2 wraith squads turbo boosted along with the lord to the land raider. only left around 1 inch between them and the raider. the flayed ones lost no casualties as they began to cross under the rapidly flowing river. the destroyers moved 12 forward, and the rest of the infantry as well as the monos moved up 6. The destroyers unleashed a massive volley of lightning at the defiler, turning its battle cannon into molten metal. Lucky me! (as most of you know, blast weapons can be the bane of necron infantry!) The chosen were briefly engulfed by massed fire from the immortals and pariahs, but as the fire died down only 2 chosen were missing, flayed to their bones by the gauss weaponry.
Chaos turn 2: The land raider pulls back 6 inches, then unloads its cargo of termies and typhus. the rest of the army keeps moving forward. The termies unload everything theyve got at the wraiths with the lord, felling 2 of the ghastly creatures. The nearest group of marines fired into the other group of wraiths, dropping 2 more. I got worried there as only one was left, however i dropped the 2 nearest the marines thus barely keeping them from assault range. The predator annihilated another immortal with its lascannons, while the bikes dropped a flayed one with bolter fire. As the vindicator tried to cross the river on the other side of the board, it slowly sank into the water and sat in the mud the rest of the game. Once again, luck was on my side! Typhus and his termies assaulted the Lord, dropping another wraith, leaving the lord to himself.
Necron turn 2: 3 of the downed wraiths rise from the ground, joining up with the lone wraith still standing before moving back to the battle between the termies and typhus. The immortals move to the side in front of the bridge, allowing the pariahs to advance onto the bridge and prepare to assault the chosen, who are also on the bridge. The rest of the army continues to slowly advance. The pariahs prepare to charge the remaiing 4 chosen, but after the mass gauss fire they unleash none are left standing. Both monoliths unleash massive bolts of green lightning at the marines that shot up the wraiths, one scattering and hitting nothing and the other blasting 6 marines from their feet. the flayed ones assault the bikes, bringing 2 down and tearing the skin and armor from the dead followers of chaos. the wraiths assault back into the fight with the lord and typhus and his escort. in the melee, typhus' entire escort falls to the blades and warscythe of the lord and wraiths, typhus taking 3 wounds himself. (i was amazed he rolled so many 1s...) The lord falls from typhus many attacks.
Chaos turn 3: The remaining chaos army continues to advance, trying to cover ground in the wake of the denied flank that left half the army without opponents. The bikers down another flayed one while the pariahs lose 6 to fire from the middle marines that were behind the chosen.
Necron turn 3: The pariahs move towards the marines, the nightbringer moved across the river, and the rest of the army advanced onward. No marines fall to the fire from the pariahs, but one does fall from the charge. A monolith lets another bolt fly at the landraider, blasting it apart in a shower of fire and sparks. The other monolith teleported the lord through its portal (the first
WBB save failed. the 2nd from the monolith i rolled a 6, giving him 3 wounds again!). the lord moves back beside typhus and prepared to charge. the tomb spyders, which by now had also crossed the river, found themselves sitting still except for the lead one which assaulted the defiler. the defiler missed every attack, and the spyder hit with one, wrecking the defiler and stunning my enemy. i was surprised as well hah. the lord assaulted typhus, who fell under the assault form 4 wraiths and the lord. half the chaos army is now gone.
Chaos turn 4: A squad of marines crosses the river. However, when they come out they have 4 less than before. apparently some got stuck in the mud at the bottom or swept away! Noone dies in this turn.
Necron turn 4: The army is almost all ready to charge now. A monolith fires at the predator, wrecking it. the nightbringer charges into the combat involving the pariahs, as well as 2 tomb spyders. The marines lose 5 to the necron assault. The wraiths and lord assault the leftovers of the monoliths first attack, finishing that marine squad.
Chaos turn 5: the remaining terminator squad and sorcerer assault the big melee in the middle, failling to wound the nightbringer at all.
Necron turn 5: The nightbringer kills the sorcerers retinue alone, killing the entire retinue. the pariahs are still near, lowering the sorcerers leadership to 7. the sorcerer fails his attempt to run and is swept down by the nightbringer. at this point all that is left is the stuck vindicator, and the chaos army surrendered.
apparently my opponent had aweful die rolls. poor guy. i never lost a single squad while he lost all but his vindicator which remained out of range the entire game. what yall think?
