Thanks, guys!
I use an Airbrush with Vallejo Air Crimson Red paint over a black primer coat. I then try to leave a tiny amount of black peek through on the edges.
I only wish the Marines themselves were that easy to do red on....

Just Crimson red over the top of the black coat? What problems are you having with the normal marines?
Which one is the crimson red? I can't seem to find it.

OOPS!
That'll be SCARLET RED #71003......
The red goes on pretty well actually. You need to build it in coats, slowly, putting more and more paint in the center of each individual plate to get the shading effect. No highlight colors, just layering.
When done right, it takes some time, but I like the effect.
I've figured out how to keep MY BA marines Red. I start with rmy painter Dragon Red, use Les's Black wash, then highlight with Vallejo Red, followed with a final highlight over that with the Vallejo Air Scarlet Red. It works well for me, but it takes more time than I would like. Next batch, I'll start with Armypainter True Red.

Why not just airbrush the marines Scar red, wash them then highlight them? Seems a lot faster

The army paint spray is quite expensive isn't it?
What did you do for the weathering and exhaust fumes?

Yes, I do think Army Painter is expensive and it's tricky to get used to. My first can SAILED against a wall . Once I figured out to use it properly, it works great. Also it's tough as hell. No chips, scrapes, or rubbibng off. For the little I use it, I'll pay the premium.
The weathering is done by thinning down a tan paint and a brown paint so it's somewhat transparent. then, starting with tan, stiple it on with a flat head brush. Push it on and rotate the brush as you do it. Then repeat with the brown, leaving the tan showing as dried dirt.
Fumes are the same with black paint...

Are you sure thats just scarlett red? It looks more like a blood red mix, I've had a look at Scarlet red ona couple of my own models and it seems a lot darker.
