Subject: New Dark Eldar codex

Perturbed Blood Angel Tactical Marine

So, having decided to sell my Tau and my Chaos stuff in order to get back into the hobby of Warhammer 40K by starting fresh, I have started looking for a new army to model. I originally was going to go Imperial Guard, and even purchased and assembled a Destroyer Tank hunter, which I really enjoy.
But, then I started looking at other armies that also caught my eye. The Space Wolves and the Necrons were obvious things that I was looking at, as I had always enjoyed them, but what really took me by surprise was the Dark Eldar.
Now, back when I used to play regularly, I always heard about how horrible the Dark Eldar were, and how there was talk that they would be discontinued. I also know that people complained that they were in dire need of a codex upgrade.
My question is, now that they have gotten this upgrade, how are they? I think that the model range looks pretty interesting, and that is part of the reason that I wouldn't mind trying them out. (I enjoy modeling just as much as playing.)
Also, from a modeling and painting/converting standpoint, how fun are they. One of the reasons that I am not as big of a fan of Necrons, despite them being cool, is that there is no real room for creativity.
Edit: Also, I just noticed. How come GW didn't release a Battleforce with the new range of miniatures? And is it just me, or do some of the minis seem to be missing from the store?

They've completely overhauled the Dark Eldar and alot of the new minis are slated for Wave 2, coming sometime during March. The Battleforce, likewise, would probably come when they have some more plastic sets to rip us off on.
DE are pretty balanced as far as codexes go. They have some really cool toys, but nothing glaringly overpowered or ridiculous like the BA deepstriking Landraider or Mephiston.

Deep striking Landraider? Really? Who gave that a go ahead? That is just plain dumb sounding.
It looks like I have March to look forward to then. Hope we get some of the metal figures turned into plastic.
I picked up a squad of Wyches today, and I have to say, they are a blast to build.

BA and SW have alot of funny crap running around (SM on wolves that apparently have more durability than a Car-sized bike, the most superstitious and psyker-hating space marine chapters having the best psykers in the game, as well as other shenanigans like the BA's Space Jesus).

As far as the newest codex's go, it's probably the most balanced so far, and oh my gosh is it fun to play, wizzing aroung the table in fast skimmers shootin and assaultin and then hoppin back into paper airplanes and doin it all again that's fun, and the models are awesome for conversions, and they look amazing! Oh and yes, they only released about 50% of the models in the codex when it first came out, and are rumored to be coming soon which should be awesome they also have some pretty funky rules to mess around with and oh so much customization

They are still the most difficult army to play, albeit more forgiving and a whole hell of a lot more balanced than any codex coming out within the past year. And pretty much everything is plastic, which makes building the army a lot easier.

Back in the UK and hating it

I'm enjoying playing mine at the moment, and will be taking them to a local tornament in a few months hopefully.
As has been said the codex is good but not silly, and after the initial shock of the new rules on my opponents, the games have been pretty balanced - it hasn't been a walkover for either side.
The army is really strong A/T if you are taking Raiders and Ravagers with all the Dark Lances. It's pretty good in close combat too but comes a bit unstuck if the enemy units have good armour saves, i.e. you generate a lot of hits with wyches but turning them into wounds on Marines and Terminators can be hard.
