If we get a new Sisters of battle codex - I love the old one but it needs an update (plastic mini's damn it) - Do you think we'd get any sisters of silence as many an elite choice
or possible a farmed out squad upgrade ala Wolf guard?

For those of you who don't know SoS used to (And possibly still do) Operate or serve on the the 'Black ships' that harvested unsanctioned pyskers. They were deployed during the siege of Terra was well as the burning of Prospero. They were an all female order like SOB - their history is vague but theres not listing of them being disbanded either.

They were warp blanks and couldn't be sensed by pyskers and powers couldn't be cast against them.

I think they'd be a cool addition to the codex, could maybe be used as a squad leader or a squad themselves.

If used at a squad I could see them like this

Sister of silence 75pts
BS WS S T I A LD S
4 4 3 3 4 2 09 3+
Sister of silence knight
BS WS S T I A LD S
4 4 3 3 4 2 10 3+

Squad size: 1Knight and 4 Sister of silence

Equipment:
Frag grenades
Krak grenades
Bolter
Power armour

Special rules:
Psychic blank (Psychic powers may not be cast on, into or against a Sister of Silence Squad)
Holy Ammo (Bolter/Flamer rounds fired from a Sister of Silence squad Ignore Invulnerable saves)

Upgrades:
May take up to 5 Sisters of silence for...............................................13pts/model
One Sister may exchange their bolter for:
A Flamer or Meltagun......................................................................5pts
If the squad numbers 10 members one other Sister may exchange their bolter for:
Heavy Flamer or Multimelta...............................................................10pts

The squad may take a transport as usual

The Knight may take whatever crazy upgrades the sisters will get.

If used as a squad upgrade they could take all sorts of wargear upgrades and equipment, maybe add faith points and other abilities

What do you think?

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Ummm...somewhere...

I think that 13 points per model is pretty crazyly underpriced, more like 20+ points per model for a unit that Ignores psychic, personally I also think they would have a 4+ save, I remember there being some description of them in A thousand sons where they were everyone of their movments was 'fluid', they are also meant top be crazy close combat fanatics.
I could imagine them more costing 25-30 points per model, +10 for the Knight with a stat line like
WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
5 4 3 3 1 5 2 9 4+ (or 3+, if apparently the new sisters do have more 'streamlined' armor)
Wargear: Bolt Pistol, Power Sword, Krak Frags
May replace bolt pistol with hand flamer/Infernos pistol for bla bla bla
As well as they are immune to Psychic powers of any sort targeting them (as well as things that scatter onto them)
Also Give them the Pariah power from the necrons codex were all Psykers have to take Psychic tests on 3D6 if they are within 12 inches (seeing as they are meant to be like a brick wall in the warp)
Just my opinion

- "Do not believe in me who believes in you, do not believe in you who believes in me, but believe in you who believes in yourself! DUMBASS!"
~Dark Eldar- Pirates of the Crystal Moon - 2400 points 38/15/4
~Pre-heresy Luna Wolves- WIP! (Probably gonna be a while)
~Recently sold sisters, GW ruined them for me their burning of xeno's will be remembered! (Friend bought them back for me, making them work, statement so far half stands after a lesson learnt)
~ SKAVEN - 1000 points and growing, just have assassinate a few warlords to get my way...need more cheese...

yeah, 3+ save is too high. 4+ is much better

That is more or less my opinion too.
But I think Sv 3+ is better. It is power armor, and they are supposed to be elite warriors, with free access to the best technology the Imperium can create. They are not Custodes, but they answer only to the Emperor himself.
Just my two cents.

I like the 3+ armour. Making them an 'assault' squad would make them different enough from the regular sisters to make them worth it.

I think keeping them as WS4 but giving them I5 and A2 would be sufficient.

I like the brick wall thing but maybe making every enemy within 12'' check powers at -2(or-3)LD? That would make them different from 'Shadows of the warp'

Give'em frag grenades but make them NOT faithful

I agree a 3+ is too much for the same reason already stated, that in a Thousand Sons the description is more like a Repentia in terms of armor.

Also, in Faith and Fire even the Sisters seem put off by the Black Ships, so I don't see it as a hand-in-hand idea for a unit specifically for their codex, even if they are involved in current Imperium usage. According to Lexicanum, there isn't a reference to them still being functional in the current time period. In Faith and Fire they only talk about the Black Ships, but not the SoS, and only Arbites and maybe SoB come off the ship. Not sure if any other of the Black Library books include the Ships though.

If you made rules I'd have to assume they were decent in combat, but not great because they are only studied humans, and they totally shut down psychic power in their vicinity because the Thousand Sons can't use any powers while they are around. However, they would probably just deserve the same rules as the Pariahs and the Culexus as the precedent for how their null power works.

Coming to think of it, there are many kinds of Sisters of Silence squads.

Just to name a few:
Assault Squads: close combat specialists.
Spoiler:

Prosecutor Squads: searching for mutants.
Spoiler:

Good dog, good dog.
Another two pictures, not as impressive
Spoiler:

Extraction Squads: looking badasses.
Spoiler:

The Raptor Guard: elite option.
Spoiler:

Witchseeker Squads:
Spoiler:

Vigilator Squads:
Spoiler:

Seeker Squads (same as witchseeker?): with birds and dogs.
Spoiler:

Interrogator Squads:
Spoiler:

Vigilator Squads:
Spoiler:

We got some HQ options and secundary leaders too: sisters-commanders like Jenetta Krole, Silent Judges like Melanena Verdeth, Oblivion Knights (who lead the Witchseekers), Pursuivants and Excruciators.

They were/are also the militant arm of the Adeptus Astra Telephatica, an army of psykers, which training division, the Scholastica Psykana, train Librarians for the Adeptus Astartes, Primaris Battle-Psykers for the Imperial Guard, Inquisitors, Grey Knights and Astropaths.

The position of the Sisters of Silence in the Imperium can be seen in this picture.
Spoiler:

They are His Left Hand.
Well, they were His Left Hand prior to the Heresy.

However, it is apparent James Swallow has a completely different vission of them. In "The Voice" they were just little girls poorly armed that could not stop talking about their feelings. GW fluff is in a constant state of flux. But it was apparent these girls were meant to have a full codex of their own some time ago.

Source?
Not being disrespectful, but I got a copy of The Collected Vissions opened in front of me. It is in page 152, and it reads "Assault Squad".
The "Raptor Guard" is in the same page. At the right of the last one (who is "Janetia Krole", I spelled it wrong) is the Emperor himself.

There is a picture of an Oblivion Knight in page 146, and she looks completely different.
Oblivion Knight (Amendera Kendel):
Spoiler:

Oblivion Knights were supposed to be leaders.

However, the fluff about the SoS is changing fast. I mean: did you find another source about the Assault Squads? Have these pictures been used elsewhere?

Could you give me the name of the original books?

I am very interested in the SoS fluff, and I know there where some playing cards (?), but it is pretty hard to find.

I know there have been lots of changes in the fluff, I am really interested.
