Hello all. This is a special character dreadnought that one of my friends made up to use for his Death knights SM chapter. We have played several games with him and most of the people we play with think he is over powered. I think that he is a little to hard to kill, we play a game of Apoc last night and the Super Lord of change (i cant re-call his name) only managed to destroy most of his weapons. I will post some pics of the model later when i can take some pics of it.

Armour
WS BS S F S R I A

Artificer-Master Damasceas 355pts 6 6 6(10) 13 13 11 4 2(5)

Unit type: Vehicle (Walker, unique)

Wargear: two Dreadnought close combat weapons with built-in Meltaguns, two Dreadnought close combat weapons with built-in Heavy Flamers, Extra Armour, Ironclad Assault Launchers, Locator Beacon, Searchlight, Smoke Launchers

Dreadnought Servo-Harness: Damasceas is equipped with a utility harness – similar to a Techmarine’s – incorporating a series of mechadendrite tools & a pair of powerful servo-arms. These systems allow him to forgo his normal shooting to attempt battlefield repairs on himself and other friendly vehicles as per Blessing of the Omnissiah (see Codex: Space Marines pg.71), receiving +1 to the roll.

Thunderfire Cannon: Damasceas personally designed his armoured tomb to be a monstrous walking siege engine. He crowned it with a suitably monstrous weapon. The Artificer-Master may move & fire normally, or attempt battlefield repairs in the same turn he fires the Thunderfire Cannon, but he may not charge in the assault round.

Personal Void: a powerful personal Void shield protects Damasceas, providing him with a 4+ invulnerable save against ranged attacks.

Special Rules: Bolster Defences (see Codex: Space Marines pg.71), Move Through Cover, Venerable (see Codex: Space Marines pg.65)

Ancient of War: all Glancing and Penetrating hits on Damasceas receive a –1 to the result rolled on the Vehicle Damage chart.

Father of the Forge: if Damasceas is wrecked in an objective-based battle, his wreck counts as an additional objective for the Death Knights player. If they do not hold his wreck at the end of the battle, the Death Knights player counts as holding one fewer objectives than they actually hold. This may result in the Death Knights player holding negative-one total objectives.

Noospheric Cogitation Network: an army that includes Damasceas may take Servitors as a Troops choice. All Servitors replace Mindlock with Stubborn, and weapons crewed by Servitors are treated as twin-linked.

So what do you think dakka?

Good god this thing is OP. AV13 with a 4+ Invun? 4 DCCWs with WS and BS6? AND a Thunderfire? This thing needs a lot of work to make it playable.

Downgrade it's abilities...
And maybe change the invulnerable save to a 5+ 'cos it is gonna be very hard to kill hitting on a 4+(For close combat) then having to penetrate and then get past the invunerable.

His void +4 only works on ranged attacks. Not for hand to hand.

I need to read thing better apparently.
Still it makes him a touch OTT. Not as OTT as he might be if he had it in CC but still pretty far there. Maybe give him a 5+ but all the time.

Ancient of War: Makes him immune to shaken and stunned.

Thoughts?

Nah leave it as it is. Ancient of war would simply be extra armour like that.
Although you might want to change the Noospheric connection to: As long as Artificer-master Damasceas is alive etc as soon as he dies all servitors lose Stubborn and no-longer count as scoring, they are also subject to the mindlock special rule.

Waaay OP.

Here is what i would change it to.

Artificer Master Damasceas: 400 points

WS...BS.......S.......F....S...R.....I......A
.6......5.....6(10)..13..13..10....4...3(4)

Wargear: 2 DCCWs with built in Melta Guns, Clyclone Missile launcher, Servoharness, Void Generator(5+ Invuln)

Special Rules: Bolster Defenses, Blessing of the Omnissiah(Damasceas may repair himself, but may not benifit from the Servoharness bonus as it is fairly awkward for him to access different parts of his Hull), Ancient of War*

Ancient of War: Damasceas has trod countless battles over the ages and has faced down Deamons and Aliens alike. Damasceas has the Venerable Special Rule(see Codex: SM) and ignores Shaken and Stunned results on the damage chart.

I changed the Thunderfire cannon to a Clyclone missile launcher. it fits more with the size of a dreadnought(which wouldn't be able to carry Ammo for it and have a servo harness)

That would work i think purplefood.

I don't think the Clyclone would work as he has already made the model. When he sends me some pics i will post them.

Sorry, but a TFC doesn't really fit on a dreadnought.

My guess is that the model is hidiously unbalanced.

Agreed. That said, let's see some pics, if it looks awesome enough I bet opinions will be swayed

Pics to come later tonight. He made Damasceas out of a ven dred, iron clad, a bunch of bits, a difiler, and the thunder fire cannon. Sorry its taking so long to get the pics up.

Ok, if it's the size of a defiler then we can talk.

Yeah its a really big target. I have been talking to him about it and some of the ideas that have been posted. He agrees with Noospheric Cogitation Network only working if he is on the field. But he still thinks that he more than enough pts. In the play test games he has only been destroyed once out of 5 games. Some of the games he has been left with little to no weapons left. Most of the games he has won, i dont think its b/c he is to powerful mostly people just trying to down it and forgetting about the rest of his army. In our recent game of Apoc (team game, SM/SM vs Daemons/Eldar) the other team poured fire into him, and he was able to survive 4 rounds of hand to hand with Aetaos'Rau'keres. We thought that the Daemon Lord would destroy him in one round, but our friend had bad luck on his rolls.

Ok then! And we were thining this thing was the size of the average Dreadnought, which was making me wonder how it had 4 arms. Now, to try and balance this thing, here is what I propose.

Artificer-Master Damasceas pts: 375
BS: 5 WS: 6 S: 6(10) AVF: 13 AVS: 12 AVR: 11

Type: Vehicle, Walker

Wargear: 2, DCCW w/ built in Melta guns. 2, DCCW w/ built in Heavy Flamers, Thunderfire Cannon, Smoke, Searchlight, Locator Beacon

Special Rules

Servo Drive: As a former Techmarine, Damasceas wears a servo-harness on his battle sarcophagus that can be used to repair both his own systems, and any nearby systems. Thanks to his centuries of experience calming, and placating the Machine Spirits of his chapter's vehicles, Damsceas has a +1 on all rolls to repair he makes.

TFC: ((Your rules seem fine here))

Void Shield: Somehow, Damasceas has managed to create a void generator small enough to be mounted on a single dreadnought. All shooting attacks against the void shield must be resolved against the shield (while it is up). The shield counts as AV12, and any shot that glances or penetrates this brings down the shield. If the shield is brought down, Damasceas can try to raise it again, but this requires so much power that he can not move while attempting to raise his shield. To re-raise the shield, roll a dice. On a 4+ the shield is brought back online.

Ancient Dreadnought: Damasceas is the oldest Dreadnought in the Death Knight's armory, and has strode the battlefield for millenia. Not only does he have the Venerable special rule, but all rolls on the damage chart suffer from a -1 modifier.

Noospheric Cogitation Network: Damasceas's advanced systems allow him a deep level of control over servitors. If he is included, Servitors may be taken as troops choices, and count as fearless, nor do they have to make Mindlock rolls while Damasceas is alive. However, if Damasceas is to fall, Servitors must start rolling for Mindlock unless they normally would not have to.

Chapter Relic: Damasceas is not only a veritifiable god of war, but also one of the most valuable relics the Death Knight's posess. If he is to fall, his wreck (or crater) as the case may be counts as an additional objective for the Death Knight player to hold. However, if the enemy holds it, then the Death Knights count as holding one less objective.

Ok, i'll admit thats a sweet model. nicely done conversion

Chris's version looks nice, but i still think it's a tad underpriced. Venerable plus -1 on the damage chart is really good.

Yeah, 400 would be better. He is super survivable and deals out loads of pain to anything it wants, in both CC and Shooting.
