I have a case that I use to transport my 40K armies, which works out quite well. But the foam inserts don't particularly lend themselves to safely carrying my fantasy troops. The spears, banners, halberds and odd sized cavalry models usually don't fit well inside the trays, and even if I were to cut them into larger spaces, I wouldn't feel comfortable stacking another tray on top of it.

I'm curious how you veterans do it. I have an array of toolboxes and foam cases, but at least 1/3 if not more of each army I have would probably bend, snap, or break if I tried to put it into my camelot case.

I know a lot of guys who use tool boxes with sliding shelves. All their models are magnetized, so when they roll up to the store, they simply pull out fully ranked and ready to go units.

I've still got the models stashed in "one-per" foam openings, and it takes me forever to rank up.

From what I've seen, this is totally the way to go! I'd be interested to see what kind of "tool boxes with sliding shelves" you're talking about, RZ, as I'm still searching for the best way to do this.

For fantasy troops, I would say storing magnetized models ranked up on movement trays with a metal sheet in them is incomparable in its easy of use, and the protection is good too because you're not snapping off spears, banners, and the like.

Sadly my armies aren't magnetized. I use a Sabol Army Transport Battalion bag for both of my elves armies. Initial setup for them is a little labor intensive, but they are carry on safe for air travel and are safe from turbulence or dropping.

I use a rubbermaid tub with my whole army magnatized in units ready to go, when to the whole tournament and only a fiend's tail fell off, and it wasn't during transport.

The drawback of the toolbox is that it definitely isn't going to get you on any planes. I don't know how well it holds up on really long car trips, but I'll see them again this Tuesday for a mini-tournament. I'll try and get a make/model to pass on.

My friend, who has a battlefoam bag, just swithced over to this method . He just said it took too long to put each model into each foam compartment... he recently started skaven, so that's understandable

I'd like to hear what it is exactly, RZ! It's the outer case that has me stumped... although I have seen this done with Sabol as well, with the space for the whole block cut out of the pluck foam.

The problem with tool boxes and the like is that unless your movement trays are anchored, if it tips over the ENTIRE unit tosses about with the weight of metal behind it.

A somewhat avoidable issue, but an issue nonetheless.

This came very close to happening to me with my magnetic tray . That's why I'm still undecided about the outer housing, although I'm convinced units should be transported together... the sabol bags with cutouts for the entire troop tray are what I'm being tempted by currently.

I will admit that it is a huge pain to take out and then put back every single model from individual cut outs. Individual unit cut outs with magnets would work nicely.

That's what I'm leaning towards after reading this. I'm going to magnetize my bases (one of those ideas so simple and brilliant I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it first) and build troop block "sleeves" out of foam or pink insulation board to keep things from flipping over or sliding around.

*ponder* Though it might be even easier to hot glue a magnetic whiteboard thing to the bottom of the case and see if the unit magnets will hold things in place that way, too.

This is what I use. Got this toolbox at Lowes for $30 they often have on sale for $20, it's a Kobalt 20inch box, magnets are from amazingmagnets.com bout 10 cents each this box also has a top tray that holds infantry the bottom has enough clearence for even a giant really nice for monsters or war machines. No pressure is applied to models like with foam systems and putting them away and taking them out is easy and fast, it can get a bit heavy though.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd
-Alexis de Tocqueville.
