First I would like to thank you for reading my DIY Space Marine Chapter, I have work very hard on it and I think it is almost finished! I would like for you guys to tell me if I am missing something or if there is an area that needs improving.
"There will be no words spoken, no greeting, no mission briefing, no acknowledgement. The Undaunted Predators come for battle. They come to hunt."
Commander of 243 Cadian Regiment, Colonel Hiosew
History/Origins
An increase in military activity around the Eye of Terror was a cause of concern for the Imperium. Several Military Commanders and Tech Adepts studying the patterns of attacks believed that the Imperium should prepare itself for another Black Crusade. Around the same time, Astropaths started to have a harder time sending and receiving messages, and other psykers were having visions of plagues, cities engulfed in flames, and Commanders turning upon each other. Already under great duress from Ork Waaghs and Eldar Raids it was clear that the Departmento Munitorum was not going to be able to provide reinforcements to everyone that needed it. Faced with such adversity from all directions the High Lords of Terra approved of the 11th Founding.
The Adeptus Mechanicus used Rogal Dorn’s geneseed, selected from the stock of the Iron Knight’s to create the new Chapter. Unlike most Space Marine Chapters who get to select their Home World, the Imperium stationed them on a Feral world in the Oan Drove system. The Chapter was created to patrol the Segmentum Pacificus, while being within range to provide reinforcements to the Eye of Terror if needed. With just enough resources from the self-efficient Oan Drove System and excellent tutelage from the Iron Knight’s training cadre the Undaunted Predators were able to get in full fighting conditions in a short amount of time, and started to have successful campaigns in the Segmentum. According to Imperial Records, after three centuries of Imperial service the chapter along with the entire Oan Drove System was destroyed, considered a victim of the Black Crusade.
But in reality Warp Storms had appeared near the Oan Drove System making warp travel and communication with the Imperium impossible. Without communication the citizens of the Oan Drove planets started to panic, their state of panic became outright paranoia when the forces of chaos started to invade the system. However the Undaunted Predators meet this threat head on destroying the initial attack with ease as the enemy was not expecting heavy resistance.
Chapter Master Cornelius assembled all of the military leaders of the system and started to prepare the defenses of the Oan Drove System. He decided that they would defend themselves against any foe, until contact with the Imperium could be re-established. The Undaunted Predators setup bases on all of the planets in the system and with the aid of Imperial Guard Regiments of the local planets they fought off the forces of chaos for several millenniums.
Unial, Chief Librarian of the Undaunted Predators, became fixated on re-establishing communication with the Imperium. Through years of research and study Unial mastered the Lore of the Astronomican. For centuries he would hunt and feast on the largest predators on Madera, after the feast he would attempt to establish communication. With each failed attempt he would torture himself for several minutes with the pain glove. Unial believed that by following in the footsteps of Rogal Dorn and using the pain glove, he would increase his psychic abilities. Eventually he along with several other psykers in the system was able to create an extremely weak version of an Astronomican for .7 seconds. Despite not even being a spec when compared to the real Astronomican Imperial psykers noticed it and the Imperium immediately sent an Imperial Army to investigate. The warp storms made traveling to the Oan Drove System difficult, but eventually they were able to get within Unial’s long interstellar psychic communication range.
Recovering an isolated system located so close to a warp storm was seen as a miracle by the Imperium, but finding a Space Marine Chapter was seen as a blessing from the Emperor himself. Chief Librarian Unial’s communication abilities were unmatched and several members of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica visited him trying to learn how he was able to create an Astronomican, but sadly he died a few months later, many believe from over assertion. He is considered the Savior by the people of the Oan Drove System, and his Chapter honored him by re-naming the Chief Librarian title Unial.
Home World
The Home World of the Undaunted Predators is Madera. The planet is a huge jungle with various creatures of all different shapes and sizes. The planet’s wildlife is dazzling as every shade of the rainbow can be seen in the scales of reptiles, wings of insects, and the fur of animals. Some of the plants seem to interact with their surroundings changing shape, size, and color similar to underwater anemones.
Despite its looks, Madera is a death world full of natural predators that hunt the small tribes of people on the planet. The inhabitants live in a pre-gunpowder age relying on spears, bows and arrows, axes, and swords to hunt for food. The food pyramid on the planet is non-existent, as the smaller animals are capable of destroying and eating the larger predators. Most if not all of the animals on the planet are carnivores, making hunting a trivial game as the predator can easily become the prey.
Every boy on Madera is taught how to use a weapon from birth, because every boy’s goal is to become a hunter. The boys setup traps to try to catch wild animals, if they accomplish this goal, they become trappers. The trappers act as scouts and lookout for predators and warn the village whenever a predator or pack is spotted. The young man can attempt to kill the predator alone or wait and join the hunters in the fight against the predators. If the trapper is able to kill or greatly assist in the killing of a predator, he becomes a hunter. As a hunter he joins the men and goes out in small groups in search of prey that can feed the village for weeks or even months.
The Hunters on the planet make excellent recruits for several reasons; one being that their martial prowess is above average for humans. They are fearless often hunting creatures up to 50 times their size. Similar to a trapper trying to become a hunter, Maderains are always trying to get the kill or prove they are worthy.
Beliefs
The tribes all have different deities that they worship but they all function the same way rewarding hunters with strength. They believe that their deity gives everyone a certain amount of strength at birth and the only way to gain strength is by hunting.
When the Space Marines arrived and started to build their Fortress Monastery, the tribesmen saw them kill the most deadly animals on the planet as they cleared out space for their structures. They recognized the marines as divine beings blessed beyond comprehension for their hunting skills, and acknowledged them as the best hunters and thus rulers of the planet.
The Undaunted Predators belief slowly changed as the number of native marines increased, they now believe that the Emperor is a God and that the Primarchs are his sons. They believe that each Space Marine chapter is a tribe that worships one of the Primarchs. They believe that each Space Marine tries to please their Primarch by hunting down their foes on the battlefield, in hopes of being rewarded with strength. They believe that one day the Emperor will rise and call for his Sons and the strongest amongst their tribes to participate in the “Great Hunt”.
Organization
Years of isolation and fighting alone forced the Undaunted Predators to deviate away from the Codex Astartes. The marines that fought on different planets developed their own personal fighting style, and each group of marines became a unique company, called a Pack. Similar to the tribes on Madera, the leader of the companies or Alpha Males is determined by the individual who has been rewarded with the most strength.
Your rank in your pack is strictly determined by your perceived blessings or Strength of Dorn. Everyone in the chapter is constantly seeking great feats on the battlefield to receive more strength. If the Strength of Dorn runs thick in your veins you have the same benefits as a 1st Company Veteran and might become the Alpha Male of your pack. The Chapter Master is the Alpha Male who has earned the most strength in the eyes of his fellow Alpha Males. The Chapter Master can lose his position if another Alpha Male is deemed more worthy, so even the most elite continue to strive for more strength from Dorn.
Gene-seed
The Undaunted Predators use the gene-seed of Rogal Dorn, and as a result their butcher’s gland and sus-membrane do not function correctly. The Undaunted Predator’s neuroglottis and omophagea has mutated over time allowing them to hunt more efficiently, and it is also believe that their animalistic like rage is due to this as well.
Battle Doctrine
The Undaunted Predators strategy is to get within CQC range or “Hunting Range” as quickly as possible, once in Hunting Range the Undaunted Predators attack with an unmatched tenacity. Those that have witness them fight believe they behave more like untamed beast than Astartes in battle. This is somewhat true as their mutated neuroglottis and omophagea work together giving them the ability to access memories of predators from their Home World, which they use to invoke a feral rage. To come face to face with an Undaunted Predator is to face an animal with the cruelest of intentions, for your death is his glory, recognition, and prayer.
Battle Cry
“For Strength, For Dorn”
Thanks Again!
