Lost in the Warp....

Hey guys so there has been a big problem recently with Tourney lists that I have trouble with! This is my nids going against space wolves they have so much TONS OF MLs and jaws to eat upthose tervigons which just kills my list! So please I could use some help to combat them!

It's a toughie there's no denying it. I think that currently, unless there's a prolific amount of terrain all over the board to give your MCs cover, there's really no way to avoid losing a MC or two every shooting phase, especially not when SWs can throw out 20+ krak shots a turn!

One option may by to include a unit of Ymgarl Genestealers and deploy them in such a way that they will get a turn 2 charge on the Long Fang packs. Keep your Tervigons in reserve until the Fangs are getting eaten by the 'stealers, and then continue with your game as normal once they walk onto the table.

Other than that maybe try fast-moving units like Gargoyles or Ravenors to really get in their faces nice and quickly.

Take one (two even better if you can fit it in) mycetic spore fill it termagants (if you have the points devourers) drop it next to the long fangs and shoot them till they're gone. M.Spore has very short range with its base weapon, upgrading it to a barbed strangler is good way to make sure you hit something and since it shoots at the closest target the long fangs should get hit.

Also taking a unit of spore mines can block off the really nice deployment areas ... 30-60pts of these will block off a good chunk

Why don't more people take Ymgarl Genestealers?

They seem like the natural counter to Longfangs...

Probably because most like to have Zoans or Guards in the elite slots. But I can see your point Monster Rain, combined with Hive Commander and it could be potent

Trygons are decent at anti-tank in CC and can deep strike as well so you could swap out the Zoans for them, I'd think a reserve list based around deep striking Trygons (or other monsters) and Ymgarl genestealers to whip up on the Longfang packs would be pretty effective.

Agree, sounds like it could be fun, and not just cause I love Trygons =)

Having little experience actually playing with Tyranids but a fair amount against them I would second the suggestion of dev gaunts in a pod as well as other combinations of walking units such as (a tyranid prime with LW/BS attached to a carnifex with 2 t/l dev) x2 and then further missile launcher target saturation through a spod of zoans (also good for AT or their small blast powers), a couple tervigons with catalyst, some hive guard to pop tanks coming at you (at least 2x2).

So I guess a suggested list would look something like:

Tyranid Prime - LW/BS, Regen, Toxin

Tyranid Prime - LW/BS, Regen, Toxin

Hive Guard x2

Hive Guard x2

Hive Guard x2

Dev gants x10 - Spore

Dev gants x10 - Spore

Tyranid Warriors x3 - Deathspitter x2, Venom Cannon x1

Tyranid Warriors x3 - Deathspitter x2, Venom Cannon x1

Tyranid Warriors x3 - Deathspitter x2, Venom Cannon x1

Tyranid Warriors x3 - Deathspitter x2, Venom Cannon x1

Harpy - t/l Heavy Venom Cannon

Harpy - t/l Heavy Venom Cannon

Carnifex - 2 t/l Devourers

Carnifex - 2 t/l Devourers, adrenal glands

I tried to include as many targets as the missile launchers would want to target but wouldn't get to all of them in time. Each prime attaches to a carnifex and then they get cover saves, depending on the modeling, the harpies could get one behind each carnifex and then everything but the spore pods walk up the field, suppressing vehicles and hopefully popping enough of them to get to the juicy bits inside.

The carnies + prime also act as a counter-charge unit and I would have liked to get them both str 10 on the charge just to ID twolves and warbosses but I couldn't find the points.

Against jaws just try to keep it away from your carnifexes and it shouldn't pose too much of a problem. But really if you're running into that much JOTWW then those SW players need to get out and face more opponents. LL and Hurricane as a combination tends to outperform JOTWW in an all comers list than LL and JOTWW. If they're running Njal or multiple rune priests then hopefully they're going to end up light on some other portion of their army and you should still have a good shot at winning.

I would go for tyranofexes mawlocks or trygons.

If you use trevigons for synapse then perhaps hide some venomthropes. Best advice would be to have lotts of pods and have nothing start on the table.

I used to do ygmars but then my oponent became good at covering up the terain. Also it is quite bad when you do not have any aria terain to speak of.

It's 2000 on the money. I'm not sure how to scale it down but going up is pretty easy.

Swarm high S, low fire rate armies with hundreds o' bugs (spore'd devilgaunt's example)
Trample low S, high fire rate armies with high T MC's

That meaning long fang ML's great fear is a 30x hormies leaping towards their fire position, while 30x IG, with their S3 lanterns faint as a carnifex charges in their direction.

Said that the real problem are medium S, medium fire rate (or blast/templete) versatile weapons, equally drilling through Mc's or bugs, worse if they have low enough AP(quite likely).
