Why the Plasma Gun in the third Tac squad? I'd think a melta or flamer would be cheaper and more synergistic with Vulkan's special rules.

I'd dump the plasma gun and get matched combis on all the tac squads sergeants. Whilst I'd consider dumping the MMs on the tac squads due to short range and no move and fire MLs tend to be a better buy.

I'd also dump the LC on the sternguard and take a 3rd Combi-melta.

The solo support units don't synergise with eth army or really help at all.

I'd drop all of them. Double up the Ironclad (now you have 2 for duel threat and redundancy). And pump the rest of the points into the suggestions I've made and more sternguard.

So something like this:

Troops: Tactical Squad 245 pts (Meltagun, ML)

Troops: Tactical Squad 225 pts (Meltagun, ML)
1 Sergeant- combi-melta, meltabombs

So you still get 3 DPs but all your tacs come in Rhinos now. All have duel special weapons for increases efficiency. Your stenguard are more threatening and you can dump 2 Ironclads in your opponents face in turn 1 should you wish.

So the plasma gun will be gone. I like your idea Fling, but for two MLs, there is very little long range support. Any ideas?

I really like having a tactical squad in a Drop Pod. It has won me more games than I can count to have a scoring unit deep strike onto the table late in the game.

I like to run mine like this:

7 Bolters, Missile Launcher, Melta Gun; Sergeant with a Combi-Melta and Power Fist; Drop Pod

It has good synergy with Vulkan and can snag that objective that would otherwise be out of reach.

For a salamander army it has a pityful amoubt of meltas/flamers & TH's if ya gonna take a special character play to it's strengths vulkan is a nice model but don't let that be the only reason it's in the army

Isn't 30 tacs too much for 1500, though? You can drop the third tac, put more speeders or add a dakka pred, or boost your Sterns. If it was me, I'd do something like this:


HQ:
Vulkan He’stan (190 pts)

Troops:
10-man Tactical Squad w/ Meltagun, Multi-melta, Combi-melta, Drop Pod (220 pts)
10-man Tactical Squad w/ Meltagun, Multi-melta, Combi-melta, Drop Pod (220 pts)

Elites:
Ironclad Dreadnought w/ Seismic Hammer, Meltagun, Heavy Flamer, Drop Pod (170 pts)
Ironclad Dreadnought w/ Seismic Hammer, Meltagun, Heavy Flamer, Drop Pod (170 pts)
7-man Sternguard Veteran Squad, 5x combi-melta, 2x combi-flamer, Drop Pod (245 pts)

Fast Attack:
Land Speeder Squadron, 2 LS, both MM/HF (140 pts.)
Land Speeder Squadron, 2 LS, both MM/HF (140 pts.)

Total: 1495. Still 5 points to spare. Meltabombs, maybe?

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Hmmm I would chuck in some TH/SS in a Land Raider Redeemer That would be fun.

Its a deathstar unit. They are extremely powerful in what they can deliver, but it is putting a lot of eggs in one basket.

I've had my LR - TH/SS termies prove worthwhile time and time again, but I still often bring a wave of support instead.
