Greetings fellow Dakkers! I'm a new Ork player that recently put my Blood Angels on the shelf and wanted to release the inner green that has been residing in me. Me and my friend dareaper decided to playtest a scenario for a friend of ours who is running a tournament in a bit.

The Scenario:
Warlord Grabthumpa revved the engine of his warbike, watching his boyz run around the battlewagon and trukks that had been parked nearby. His lootas lovingly tinkering with their deffguns as they hurled insults at the Nob bikers throw bone dice around and smack each other for the sheer pleasure of it. Suddenly Grabthumpa raises his head, sniffing the air. "Oy! You boyz, git in da trukks and git ready, i smell sumting sneaking around here" With shouts of glee and a few thumps, the Nobz for each trukk and the Battlewagon force the boyz into the ramshackle creations while Big Mek Croffedvolt finishes whacking a bolt into place on Grabthumpas bike. Looking up at the Warboss to make sure he's not about to get thumped, a sudden shout comes from the lootas. "Boss, dem Dark Eldar boyz be flying towards us, they heading for our Gorkie Morkie sites!". Grabthumpa lets a smile cross his face, "I've been lookin' for a good fight, these Dark Eldar boyz will have some fun" With a shout of glee he kick Croffedvolt towards the lone battlewagon and guns the engine, belching black smoke and riding towards the enemy.

Mission was Capture and control, 4 objectives placed 12 inches from each corner and one in the middle, with a smattering of ruined buildings and a few trenches and fences around.
Deployment was pitched battle, with Killpoints being a second objective and the tertiary being a dedicated defender option.
Both players have secret objectives, Mine is to not kill the spy, well gak, there goes the tabling option, i decide that duke gets to live another day, while dareapers is to claim the middle objective.
Neither dareaper or myself want to have to weather first turn fire so we both elect to attempt first turn, we end up tying deployment rolls 3 times in a row, with the 4th time sees me rolling a 1 (And i wonder why i don't run termies with BA) lol

Dareaper deploys in one corner, sticking all 6 of vehicles straddling the vehicle edge while sticking his reavers behind a building near the middle of the board.

Now come the hard decision for me, do i dare just move forward and assault like mad, like the raging greenskin inside of me wants to do, or do i stay back and hope to keep those wyches distracted long enough so that he doesnt get any objectives. I decide to try the sneaky sneaky approach, hiding my bikers behind a building with the deffkopta on the same edge as his vehicles and castling my battlewagons, trukks and lootas near the centre.
Combat drugs sees an extra pain token.
Seize fails with a 4, onto the battle!

Turn 1 - DE

Dareaper has used his Nightshields to his advantage before, he wants to try to outrange me just enough to inflict damage and stay out of range with his lootas. He moves his raiders and ravagers up a little, and keeps his reavers where they are for now. Shooting sees it backfire on him, half of his darklances are out of range, he manages to destroy one trukk, the boyz only losing 2.

Turn 2 - Orks

Well that went wayyy better then i hoped, i had screen my lootas with my BW and now they are in range. i still try to be sneaky and pull my vehicles back a little further, moving towards the opposite table corner in hopes of drawing him out into the open, my trukkless boyz move towards the objective my bikers are nearby and shooting sees my lootas destroy the trueborn raider explode, killing 3 and also sees his one ravager wrecked.

Turn 2- DE

he moves his other ravager towards my bikers to get LOS on my vehicles and raiders up near the wrecked ravager, still not committing to being in the open but that ravager is closer to my bikes and deffkopta now. his trueborn footslog it fowards to try and gain some range. Shooting sees some whiffed dark lance shots and some amazing cover saves, however one group of lootas gets hit by splinter cannon fire and shreds 3 of em, but they pass their morale and stick around. Croffedvolt is cackling with delight as the Kustom Force Field stops all the shots and thumps a nearby boy in glee.

turn 2 - Orks

I move my deffkopta and warbikes up around the table edge, getting close to the ravager, while some boyz get out on the other edge and slog it towards an objective. My vehicles move towards the centre of the table in formation to grab some other objectives. Shooting sees a raider immobilized and its darklance destroyed, deffkopta fails to hurt the ravager and the warbikes shoot a bunch of dakka which harmlessly pings off the ravager.

Turn 3 - DE

The bikes zip all the way across, dropping bombs on my bikes, wounding 3, and landing them right beside the warbikes. He pulls his remaining 2 raiders and ravager back to the corner edge and his trueborn move into range of the bikers. a blast of fire and brimstone sees the warbikers nobz take another wound.

Turn 3- Orks
Well, if he's gonna present some juicy jetbikes to my warboss, i have to take advantage of that, the deffkopta moves towards the raiders and ravager, another squad of boyz exits and trukk and hunkers down in the other corner objective, right now i've got 3 squads of boyz hunkered down on objectives and i'm just trying to keep him distracted at this point. my battlewagons and trukks move up towards the middle objective, the shootas boyz getting out within dakka range of the trueborn. Shooting sees the reavers pass most of the cover saves, another 4 trueborn die to dakka and the deffkopta whiffs with his rokkits. Finally the first assault of the game! the reavers are sliced up by the 16 PK attacks, allowing my bikes to consolidate back into LOS around a building and not get shot by the trueborn again.

Turn 4 - DE

With his reavers gone he's going to have to start moving, he disembarks his wyches, fleets em towards my shoota boyz, something tells me they are gonna be in for a world of hurt. he pulls his surviving raiders right to the table edge with the ravager and begins to blast away with splinter pistols at my deffkopta. Now, this guy is just a regular ork, but for some reason he drank some really good mork juice in the morning, dude was jinking that deffkopta like tom cruise in top gun lol, he actually lives through both raiders firing and a bunch of splinter pistols. the ravager still has LOS on my bikers and explodes one. the trueborn open up on my big loota squad, killing 4 of them. he assaults my shoota boyz with his wyches and demolishes my poor little squad, the smile vanishing from croffvoltas face as its replaced with a dark eldar knife.

Turn 4 - Orks
! Well then, that sucks losing the shoota boyz, i should have disembarked, but oh well, life moves on, i disembark the last boyz squad from a trukk and hunker down in a trench right near the middle objective. My bikers swing around the back end of the building and are in range of the wyches with the dakka guns. I've got 3 trukks with big shootas and 2 big shootas on the wagon, i figure if i can shoot the wyches to death i should be ok for the last turn and pull out a win. Shooting sees only 4 wyches fall, leaving 4 of them still standing, my lootas shoot randomly at some things, however, my deffkopta moves behind the ravager for some sawwing action. after the rocket and the buzzsaw attack, the ravager loses a dark lance, dang nabit, i really was hoping that would go kablooie.

turn 5 - DE
Things are getting dicey in mid, dareaper drops off another wych squad near the middle while the other raider loaded with wyches turbo's and tank shocks my orks on one objective, bad mistake. The nob decides to hold his power klaw up while not looking, wrecking the raider and killing all the wyches, once he opens his eyes he realizes that they are all dead and begins thumping boyz around him in a glee filled mania. however, the cheering stops when splinter cannon fire start pinging around them, killing 2 of them, the remaining ravager contests the objective around the wounded orks

Turn 5 - Orks
Ruh ro! Help the boyz! I want to keep a grip on the middle, so i bring my bikers to bear, knowing that this is futile as i'm going to get charged by wyches next turn if the game keeps going, it probably would have been better off to leave them in the backfield or to finish off the trueborn, but duke was in the trueborn, and you just can't kill the duke. assault sees the Haemonculus standing at the far end of the combat out of range of my PK's (a mistake i will not be making again) so we end up locked in combat. the ravager took some fire at the rear armour but i end up just stunning it, i need to get rid of it so i assault it, not realizing that oh man, if this explodes, i am messed. Well, i was definitely thinking like a BA player with 3+/4+, well long story short, nice ravager explodes, kills 3 orks, making them fallback lmfao, dammit!

Roll of 3 for the turn, i need this game to finish up.

Turn 6 - DE

the wyches come in hard and fast, killing the warboss with agonizers and taking my bikers to town like a new fish in prison, not much went on this turn, dareaper has troops in the middle but i've got a battlewagon sitting there contesting it.

turn 6 - Orks

not much happens, i shoot the lootas at the wyches and move the trukks 8 inches and shoot the wyches, the battlewagon stays near the objective, contesting it.

Dareaper rolls a 5 for the turn, looks like its going on further.

Turn 7 - DE

the wyches and the Haemonculus assault the trukks and battlewagon, destroying them both, exploding both trukks but only killing one or 2 wyches. the few wyches that are left eat my lootas up. Dareaper went for the KP instead of the central objective.

turn 7 - Orks

Not much i can do, with all my vehicles dead, all i'm actually left with is 2 boyz squads hunkered down on objectives.

Game ends, I have 2 solid objectives taken, while dareaper has one. I fulfilled my secret objective too, however dareaper took me to browntown with KP, taking the secondary objective. In a tournament setting i would have ended up with 15 Battlepoints and dareaper with 7.

Definitely love the way that Orks play, i think that i made the smart choice by playing sneaky sneaky, i played a game earlier against a pedro army and it was a blast rushing forward and destroying a landraider with a deffrolla. There's a few changes i think i'll make to the list, perhaps doubling the number of lootas, dropping the deffkopta, and perhaps changing the nobz to a battlewagon instead of warbikes and perhaps even trying out the beast that is Ghazkull.

There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

Good BR man. as for fielding Ghazzy..... definatly a good choice. i played a 4 player 8000 pt game the other day, and Ghazzy took out a daemon prince, Ragnar Blackmane (Or however you spell it) and a nightbringer before fnally succumbing to a full squad of bloodclaws. bottom line, the dude is a beast. of all the games ive played hes only died 3 times including the last game. attatch some Meganobz to him and he is neigh unstoppable. yeah hes gonna have slow and purposefull, but Meganobz are like mini Ghazzy's. ad dont give up on the Deffcoptas man. get 4 more to complete the squadron an there aint a piece of armor in the game tha wont feel their sting.

Nice batrep. I am curious why he went with a unit of 10 reavers and mixed flyover and shooty stuff - I guess he wanted 2 of each? He might be better off doing 6/3 with the 2 antitank in the 6 and even one of the caltrops and the other caltrops on the smaller units.

His units are all so big seems like when things start to go bad he can't really recover.

Thanks again for taking the time to post it.

He should split his bikes into 2 units. They simply provide to big of a bullseye in this game. Additionally, delivering them straight at the nob bike squad was a huge mistake. He should have committed his reavers to the trukks early on. +2 to the damage roll would have allowed him to probaby pop one trukk a turn and forced you to close on the Reavers. That would have drawn you into the range of more poison weapons and the trueborn. Then possibly set up future charges with the wyches. Without pictures though it's hard to say. I definitely can say though that he wasted the potential of his reaver bikes that game. Good batrep!

Yeah one of the things I found with SM bikes that I would love doing against nob bikers and fast brutal units like that is to turbo boost an inch in front of them. Sure the unit gets totally exploded but at the cost of a whole lot of movement or the person goes around you and ignores you, also taking a ton of movement and slowing them down.

Shep absolutely hates reavers, I think they have strong potential for breaking a couple of the basic rules of the game.

True. Without pictures it's hard for me to gauge the threat level though. Nob bikers aren't that big of a threat if you can stay outside of 18". Then all you have to worry about is their shooting..which isn't always that great. His army is fast enough to keep that pace. I do see that value of using them to block movement though. I've done that countless times and is one of the reasons I like the unit. It has enough movement to do crazy tricks like that.

I guess you'll just have to show him the error of his ways. I'd be glad to know of any new tricks you come up with in your test games.
