They day English Football can officially be dubbed as mad.
Torres for £50 Million
Carroll for £35 Million
A few months ago, Barcelona signed David Villa, probably the best striker (if you count Messi as a winger/attacker/not really any position in particular) in the world at the moment, £34 Million. Why oh why do English teams need to overspend.

Any other football fans have there team sign anyone decent today? Norwich didn't

Ferguson refused to sell Howard Webb at any asking price.

I'm sort of sorry to see Torres go..although for that money we'd have been daft not to accept..and he's been a bit below par for over a year now,we might have lucked out. Carroll is good.. but no one is worth that price, I'm happier about our signing of Suarez, but willing to be proven wrong.

More astonished that Arsenal didn't sign anyone... don't get that at all.

Where an Earth they got a valuation of 35+ for Carroll I'll never know.
Hes had a decent first half to the season, has dropped off as of late and is unproven long term in the top divisions.
I'd be interested in knowing if Dalglish had a (long term)hand in these selections as scouting policy the last few years has been decidedly hit and miss, more miss to be honest.

Im assuming 'Pool are going to use Carroll in a hitman type role with Suarez as the pacey offsitter?

Liverpool have said they are justified in paying 35 Million for Andy Carrol as his record in Newcastle speaks for itself and shows he will fit right in here.

Spoiler:
3 Assault charges and one for Speeding.

I can only imagine so. odd as this will sounds, I assume they'll want Carroll to play the role that Heskey did -- no no, hang on, back when he first signed for Liverpool. He was good for his first season or two. His form dropped off really fast.

I reckon Carroll is better (or has the potential to be, especially under Dalglish) than people give him credit for. Sure, it's an expensive signing, but it'd have to have been to pull him away from a Newcastle side that honestly looks weaker without him, especially when they need to hang on in there for the rest of the season.

With the right coaching and mentoring, this guy could really become something great, and it seems as if Kenny thinks he's the man for the job.

It's the Torres bid that got me; think of the injuries he'll get by fainting after he finds Terry in bed with his wife.

Your not wrong there Mr Burning, I'm intrigued to see how this partnership forms over this half of the season and next season.

Shame the bids for Ashley Young didnt go through I Would liked to have seen him at Liverpool.

TBH in regards to united Fergie has done what he has always done (other than be a tool) and sit back and wait till Summer to have any movement to create squad stability. Take Chelski now they have Torres Anelka will go back to sulking as he has to fight for his starting place.

Still surprised there were no big bids for players coming out of Madrid considering there league position at the moment.

Hell even though the amount of money that was spent I was surprised Man City spent a reserved £27Mill for a change!!

We're doing quite well with our current team.
for example, against ipswich, on the bench we had van persie, arshavin and walcott, that's quite a powerful bench...

I'm not expecting an immeidate impact from Carroll due to the fact there's nobody you can rely on to feed him the ball, but he's young enough for it to count as an investment for the club.

Examples are (because i'm a techie) servers.

You might have a few decent servers, and then you might buy one with not so much stuff on it, but it's newer and when given the right specs and set-up, will outperform what you've currently got, as opposed to buying a server that's fully set up but out of date.

As long as Liverpool can hold on until the next window, I don't think that 35 million will have been wasted.

TBH in regards to united Fergie has done what he has always done (other than be a tool)

He might be a bit on the angry side sometimes, but he isn't a tool; he's one of the best managers in the world; if not one of the best ever.

You need a good keeper, one if not two defenders and one hard tackling midfielder at least.

Whilst at times you play some delightful football it's been...what?.... five years or more since you won anything. The squad needs depth, especially for when Fabregas eventually does think " ..oh.. sod it, we're going nowhere.." and leaves.

I'd loved Lehmann personally, he was so inconsistent and not usually very good, but - as someone who DOESN'T support Arsenal - he was so godamn entertaining!

I think Chelsea are being their typical selves and over-spending on a player they don't really need; but hey, at least we can see Torres is as much of a money-grabbing prick as the rest of them...

I think Ferguson is being very reasonable, I think he probably should have got someone on a loan to provide support and extra options, particularly when it gets tight, tiresome and injury-laden for Man U at the top of the Premiership.
However, he's building a team rather than a medley of good players, unlike Chelshki and Man City...

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

I thought we might loose Connor Wickham, but it seems it wasn't too bad in the end.
Bullard already scored, if he can stay injury free I'll feel alot more relaxed about our position in the table.

I still do not think Keane had a fair go at the club, considering the players he wanted in the summer, and was not allowed to sign.
Regardless Jewel is in charge now, if he keeps us up, thats all that matters. We've already missed a glorius chance with a weak Championship this year, to go down as well would have been a nightmare.

Still stunned that Torres went to Chelsea mind, wasn't expecting that.

I'll think you'll find they desperately needed someone, Drogba hasn't been doing it this season, Anelka hasn't been all that good. And Malouda has dropped form from last season. And they haven't spent that much money the season or two before this. I think your comments about Chelsea are way off the mark.

I admit, I am biased against Chelsea and having been paying too much attention this season, but they still have a very strong squad with an incredibly strong midfield.
Drogba, whether having a blip or not, is a still a very good player and will come through for chelsea when needed to.
Anelka and Kalou aren't the most reliable players I admit, but they are still talented.
I don't think that Chelsea desperately needed someone at all. I will admit to being off the mark though, I'd say it's somewhere between our two statements.

I think buying Torres was unnescescary (sp?) but hey, Drogba is 32 years old. When he retires they'll need someone to replace him.
Still, aquiring a replacement before when Drogba has a few years left in him is...weird.

So Gary Neville has retired now then ?

Neville, 35, ends his playing career with one Champions League triumph, eight Premier League titles, three FA Cup victories, two League Cups, the Intercontinental Cup and the Fifa World Club Cup. And, of great significance in this era of player mobility, 602 appearances and seven goals for his only club, Manchester United

..well, fair play to the guy I guess.

Crazy day yes, to much money for players. I like Torres but he is not worth that much money, not even half imo.
I enjoy soccer as much as the next guy but I am surprised that more clubs don't end up like Leeds or Portsmouth with the current economic system over there.
Not that the financial system over here is sustainable either seeing as how NFL and NBA are both in serious labor disputes.
