Do most tournies allow the use of a codex the month it is released, with only a few of their opponents knowing the rules? I fought a Dark Eldar player using the new codex at a tourny the week it was released.

Chaos daemons 1850
Chaos Marines 1850
2250+

2500++ (Wraithwing)

I moved so starting from scratch. These were the armies I had, rebuilding my Chaos.

As with every tournament-specific question, you're going to have to check with individual organizers.

Did you have a specific event in mind?

Most larger events will institute things like month delays for fairness, but as stated already: check with individual organizers.

The old policy for GW circut events was that the book had to be out at least a month. Our events hold that standard. You have to give folks a chance to digest the new rules.

Not to mention time to build/convert and paint their new Army. Nothing cheesier than someone so needing to be the flavor of the month that your looking at a wall of grey and proxy.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

I wouldn't say it's simply someone trying to be the flavor of the month. I think you forget the dedicated fans to an army that have put said army away, simply because it's no longer up to par, they hate the sculpts now, etc. . . How many people do you think own necrons that may give them a second shot when the new codex is released as right now they are just boring with one troop choice and no upgrades? I know mine may come back out of storage.

Hit the nail on the head for me, I've got both GK and Necron armies itching to come back out of storage.

I find most tournaments (GT's included) will let the new book fly as long as it is out a week or two prior to the event, and at the very least prior to list-submission deadlines (if the event has any).

Besides, most stores have store-copies out a month prior to release, so the majority of people have a bit more time to prepare then one would think if its released 1-2 weeks prior to the event.

a month is the general rule. the day it came out.....really? That game would likely never finish in the allotted time...both players would have to check the rulebook on almost every turn!

Guardman...I agree...I can't wait for the Necron codex!

The Daemonic Alliance Infinite Points
Nightbringer's Darkness 3000 Points
