Title says it all. What's the best sprue to buy to get combi-meltas, or at least bolters + meltas that I can convert?

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Chaos combi-melta from a bits seller or ebay. File or cut off chaos iconography as required. Have a look at the resources sticky thread for some bits sellers.

You can get 5 metal meltaguns direct from GW for $8.00. I'm not sure that the best method is for converting these is, though.

Ouch, metal. Well I found good conversion tutorials. Thanks though. I'll notify you guys if the conversions did well.

Try the Inferno Pistols from the Sanguinary Guard sprues. Glued to the top of a standard bolter after shaving off the sights with a 1mm strip of plasticard between the two, it works pretty good. I've got three of them getting painted at the moment and will have them on my blog eventually. Give it a try.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Hmmm, how many pistols are there in each sprue? And does Sang guard come with bolters? If so, I can totally turn these babies into counts-as Sternguard Veterans.

I think there's a single pistol in the set, but you can get them rather affordably from Let the Dice Decide, a bits service in the UK. The SG do have "Angelus Pattern" boltguns, perfect for sternguard because of the enlarged clip. I also use Chaos bolters mixed in with marine bolters for variety. Simply shave off any chaos insignia.

You can always use these metal melta-guns and combine them with plastic bolters. Just slice the bolters in half vertically and glue them to the top of the meltagun.
