Hey all, after playing cryx since mk1 I have decided to move on to retribution. Question is I know nothing about them and what works well. I need help constructing a 25pt and 50pt list. What is the easiest caster to start with? what combos work well together? etc. thanks for your help.

I think a good start is...what models do you like, maybe pick 1 Caster, Jack, Unit, and Solo and we can start from there.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

There really isn't an easiest caster. Ravyn's special rules give her some interesting complexity that takes some experience to get the most out of, but none of them really have spell lists or feats that are heavily nuianced or subtle and you could easily run a Ravyn list without her ever using anything but Snipe and her Feat and do fine.
The caster is going to define a lot of what units/jacks/models work well, but there are certainly a few can't go wrong options.
eEiryss might as well have a special rule on her card that says "Auto Include" especially for Retribution.
Mage Hunter Assassins don't really need caster buffs, hit hard, are dirt cheap, and can attack targets in melee without engaging them making them useful regardless of what the rest of the list is doing.
All of the Ret heavies come from the same plastic kit, so at least 1 of those should be in order.
If you want more specific list building advice, you'll probably have to settle on a caster.

Your go-to starting jack should be the Manticore, it's the Retribution basic fighting jack. You should also have an arcanist to buff and repair it. Those two combined will allow a manticore to hit in melee for P+S 20, allowing you to put down the heavier targets you might face. It's gun is useful in picking off solos or lighter targets. 3 POW 12 shots will put the hurt on light jacks, or thin out infantry
Don't be fooled by how much stuff is on the Pheonix, that jack is more a utility jack that can also do some extra stuff.

The retribution is best described as versatile. Picking the faction is easy, deciding what style army you want is both easy, but challenging.
Do you like combat? Dawnguard sentinals are awesome in combat.
Do you like magic? Battlemages are fun, fluffy, and have great synergy with Rhan.
Do you like to shoot? Ravyn + Mage Hunter with UA's is hard to deal with.
That where you start. From there you build your list with what you like. The Manticore as previously mentioned is pretty solid, all the Jacks are versatile, and function in more than 1 role. I'd pick up a caster, 2 plastic jacks AND magnetize them, grab an arcanist, and buy a unit of infrantry you like that work with the caster you chose. your on your way then, pick up the faction book, FYI the tier's are not awesome but every Tier 1 & 2 just makes sense with the casters.
