Friend is getting rid of his Tyranids and has the following.

30 Gargoyles, 30+ hormagaunts, 1 forge world hive tyrant with wings, 2 hive guard, 1 lictor, 2 venomthropes, 1 Zoanthrope, 9+ warriors, 20 genestealers, 1 brood lord, 9+ ripper swarms, 3 Tyranid shrieks, 3 ravengers, 1 carnifex, 1 mawloc and 1 Trygon.

I play Orks, but being new to the game, don't know squat about other armies. Is this field-able at 1k points? Is it lacking anything obvious for 1k to 1500 point games?

Also, everyone keeps mentioning a Prime to be used for the HQ in smaller games.
What is the prime?

A Prime is a kind of Warroir HQ thingy but it is very good as it is customizable to fit lots of roles.

Prime is a Tyrannid Prime - cheapest HQ available to you also a good survival mechanism for warrior squads. What you have is fieldable and actually more the 1k points. Like most tyrannid lists you will have problems with fast-moving transports other than your two hive guard. Definitely your friend likes the get up-close and personal style as he lacks any shooty bugs but that is not really a problem.

If you are up for bugs - go for it - this is a great start on a bug army.

Can someone point me to the Prime on GW site? I can't seem to find it on the Tyranid army pages.

Also, do any of you have a noob friendly 500 or 1k list I could build off this collection?

I need to get my hands on that codex!
