I've recently come across this situation in my gaming group. We are relatively new to the warhammer scene and have only been playing a handful of games. I've drawn up a rough diagram of the situation where a unit of Chaos Knights declares a charge on my Knights Panther, but is blocked partially by a unit of Warhounds

Based on the layout, the Chaos Knights would be able to wheel once, move forward and barely clip the edge of the Knights Panther unit.

The rulebook mentions that the Chaos Knights would get another wheel at the end to "close the door" to get the most number of enemy units into contact. There is no real way to wheel the Chaos Knights to contact the entire front of the unit. If we left the two units contacting each other in the edge, only 1 model from the units will be in combat. We were discussing how to adhere to the rule where the maximum number of models would be in combat.

Eventually we ended up with two options

(i) move the entire block of chaos knights to allign with the front of the block of knights panther (which would essentially be a reform more than a wheel) but essentially it places the entire block of knights in contact with one another and maximise the number of models in combat.
(ii) leave it as it is, holding onto the fact that the models are unable to "close the door" in any way. Resolve combat with 1 model vs 1 model.

After seeking advice from other people in the FLGS, we decided to go with option (i). I was struggling to find an example or ruling in the rulebook which says that is the proper way of things to be done.

How does everyone else play in situations like this? Can we reform entire units to maximise the models or do we adhere to the movement rules?

the rules are to get the maximum number of models in contact as possable within the constraints of the rules.

here, the maximum is 1.

This one will be one model vs. one model (option (ii)) until someone manages to combat reform. It looks funky, but its the correct way of executing this.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

Yep, 1v1, bearing in mind you can combat reform after the first round of combat (and the errata has removed the "about the centre" requirement)
