Are Broodlords worth it in a mostly Genestealer army? Does anyone have any good experiences with them? While it seems like you basically get a Character for 60 points, is we worth the 4 Genestealers you could have instead? Thank you for your help.

Broodlords are monsters, pure and simple, Acid Blood, Implant attack, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs & don't forget the Psychic Power, I'm always forgetting the Psychic Powers.
Yes I know I tend to overload my Broodlords, maybe to the point of making them points sinks, but I've yet to lose one in hand to hand.

I too have though the same thing. you get alot for the extra 46 to 61 points. first of all you get like what you said an IC hidden in the squad. you also get some extra wounds in your squad to keep steelers alive before you assault. you also have a Str5 model with 4 attacks. I know for sure i will be playtesting them in the next few weeks. they seem like they could be great.

Dark Angels 12,000 Points
Nurgle 2,000 Points
Imperial Guard 10,000 Points
Daemon Hunters 2,000 Points
Tau 2,500 points

I have one and have used it but....and this is a big but. You get 4 stealers for the price of one broodlord. 4. thats 12 attacks on the charge instead of 5. why bother. his psychic powers are not that great. With most nids lists numbers are best, unless your playing nidzilla, IMHO

True, you can get four normal stealers for the price of a fully kitted out Broodlord, but just buy the normal stealers as well. Honestly the only reason to feild understrength stealer broods is becuse you've run out of models.

Broodlord is worth it as you get into higher points games.

He is scoring, W3, T5, and can stare down individual enemies with his psychic awesomeness...I have used him to simple stun such targets as Trygons and Mephiston or other characters while the other stealers go crazy shearing off wounds.

He is an upgrade...he can't be specifically targetted in CC...awesome.

Also means that once the squad gets flamed you'll still have a model thats alive.

Dont buy anything but scything talons for him...have used acid blood to keep a furioso at bay...which was fun...but that was highly situational

IMHO, the Broodlord is mandatory for any Genestealer brood squad.

Yes, he is expensive, yes, you can get more Genestealers for his price. But the ability to bounce wounds off him, his higher initiative, his ability to insta-kill a character in combat, and his ability to shut a model in base to base with him from attacking is too good to pass up.

Hell, he has made his points back if he prevents three genestealers from dieing ti random shots.

Take a unit of 10 or more Genestealers, fully upgrade them with a Broodlord, and run them behind a Gargoyle screen, and you are more then likely to hit combat, and kill most things when you get there.

Agreed on his usefulness. As he's not an IC he can't be targetted, but is a great IC killer himself. When I use stealers to grind down enemy CC squads, I tend to be left with a broodlord and 1 stealer - I'm sure if I didn't have him thenbut 4 more stealers I would lose some of those combats.

I keep mine plain with rending claws. If I run 3 stealer squads (which I often do) then I only tend to have 1 squad with a broodlord and use that squad to go for the enemy's elites/HQ. 2 or 3 in an army would be very expensive.

This last weekend I got mugged by a brood lord Psychic stare down… twice. The power is great for single unit powerful characters, but also IC buried in squads. The Brood lord isn’t as good as 4 other stealers if you are using them to bust AV, where rending attacks are needed. Just make sure you have an intention on using the lord when designing the list.

I generally use mine to take out heavy weapons teams, light vehicals, and any unsuspecting victim...the Lords survivability as a scoring unit...fantastic

I deploy 7+1 broods w/sacs, they ouflank if there's no pure wall where totally hide out of LoS for infiltrating behind. They get to CC the same turn they enter play, the second turn if unlucky or Vs. a sly opponent (yet to happen ) so gargoyle/whatever cover screens fall close to pointless, though YMMV.
Note I am adding an agreement point, not debating your opinion. (quite on the contrary, in fact)
I simply treat regular stealers as additional wounds for the broodlord to engage and deliver pain safely. This way, if any of them gets to CC and rends anything away, it is an unaccounted for and grateful collateral achievement. (usually enjoyed )

Do I have yet to say that I love stealers?

They are good but it depends on what the unit needs to do. If you stealers are going to kill tanks then regular once with adrenal glands are better.

VS units tocix sacks are great

the broodlord really shines vs characters. be them power fist upgraded once or independent characters. also they will be very good vs MC's (if I ever ran into one) Also you can hide wounds in him because he has a 4+ save. One of the best arguments I have run into is that he takes up less space then a regular genestealer. If you have a lott of infiltrating going on he can be very good because your models do not get covered up so mutch.

I have never tryed acid blood or the hollow bone upgrade but one of them seems very goodm it depends on what you use him for.

Thank you all for your replies! I am adding him to all my list. Do you have any good ideas on how a could convert a normal stealer to a broodlord via modeling? $20 bucks each seems pretty steep...

I simply used the extended carapace Bitz from the warrior sprue and used the node thingy that comes with the stealers... Like so!

used a 40mm base and the node thingy gives him the approximate height of the standard BL

As for their utility, I can't really comment as I haven't run them yet in this edition of the codex... I am going to defenitely dust him off for my next match though.

Thats a cool mini.
One of my current Broodlords is the one from Space Hulk, I seriously considered buying 5 more copies just for the Lords & Stealers...if I'd had $500 to blow I would of without a second thought.
