Can you put a relic blade and a storm shield on the same captain? The codex says "replace bolt pistol and/or chain sword with:", which makes me think it can as long as you pay the points. Most relic blade models represent them with two handed weapons but in the description it says they are simply bulky, like it could also be a broad sword (i would think).

Yes you can. You lose both the pistol and the chainsword, as you swap both out.

It is a two handed sword (or axe) according to p.99, but I wouldn't mind if someone modelled a relic-morningstar or relic-trident either if it made the dude look cool. The point is that it is an oversized power weapon, hence the high strength and loss of second weapon bonus. Thunderhammers don't exactly look like they would be one handed weapons either but they go well with storm shields too.

I think the AoBR Captain's sword looks like it could be a relic blade.

What would Yeenoghu do?

Oh I see it, in the fluff it says it's two handed but in the description of the rules it doesn't mention it. So I assume that because it's not specified that you can not, nosferatu1001 is correct in saying you can combine them while replacing the pistol and chainsword.

Exactly. For fluff-sake just say that the Stormshield is mounted to his arm to allow him the use of both hands when wielding the Shield.

The rules seem contradictory, but they arn't.

the rules for both simply state that the bearer can't get the bonus attack for having 2 CCWs. a Captain could have a pistol, Chainsword, and SS, but he would only fight with his base attacks.

nothing says they can't be used together.

For modelling purposes, do any of the weapons in 40k look like they could be wielded in one hand? Powerswords are almost as tall as the guy swinging them, powerfists are twice the width of their heads, chainswords as thick as their arm, Ork Choppas are just unbelievably huge (and that's not even the BIG choppa). Go with it, it looks heroic.

What would Yeenoghu do?
