I'm considering a colour scheme for my new Dark Eldar, and I must admit, I would rather like to use Hawk Turquoise as the primary colour. Question is, what do I use to highlight and shade? I'd prefer not to use white and black....

Any of you chaps used Hawk Turquoise as a base colour before? If so, any pics on what you did with them?

Basically I just used a black undercoat and drybrushed the Hawk Turquiose over it in order to build up the tone through layers. Then the highlights are Hawk Turquoise itself. I've heard of people using a little bit of Ice Blue with it though, but I haven't really tried it out myself. I'm guessing maybe a blue and green wash or just a blue wash might also help with shading, but I haven't tried that either.

Here's the most recent I used it on.

You can tint Hawk Turquoise with Rotting Flesh or Space Wolves Grey. Both provides nice cool highlights, with Rotting Flesh erring towards green and Space Wolves Grey towards blue.

Highlighted with Rotting Flesh:

Highlighted with Space Wolves Grey (and Skull White for the final highlights):

You can shade it by adding Regal Blue (for a blue), Orkhide Shade (for a green) or Warlock Purple (for a muted, neutral effect – as seen on Alpharius).

Warlock purple makes a nice complement, too.

Ice blue to highlight, regal blue to shade. Midnight blue was a deeper colour and gave richer results but I think its discontinued? I would definately second Apologist ideas too. Messing around with colour theory is fun -green and purple glazes would be very exciting.

Anywhere worth being

I've found that Hawk Turquoise is just, overall, a great color. It works well with loads of different color schemes, and can be highlight in multiple ways, and already mentioned in this thread.

Badab Black Wash also works well with it, I've found.
