Ive been playing ork for a while and Ive seen the redheaded stepchild of the army time and again: Flashgitz.

NOBODY I know Runs them, Has ever run them, or has even bothered giving it a second thought.

What sort of use would you guys think for them? I Am racking my brain here and still havent quite figured that one out.

What do you think?

They are useful for soaking more points than just about anything, but other that they don't have anything going for them.

I built some, for conversion kicks mainly..

I've used them against my eldar-playing wife, with reasonable success. Against MEQ or tanks/transport spam i have better uses for my HS choices. If they'd been elites OTOH...

Their main benefits come from their weapons, and if they were even one BS point higher then they would be worth considering, but as of now, they're useless.

Flash gitz are not top performers. Thats the hard truth -- don't expect them to perform well in competitive games.
Now, if you are going to run flash gitz, this is how I would recommend doing it.

Nobz with Mo Dakka
Gitz come with 'eavy armor, which puts them at the same cost as a Nob with the same armor. View the gitz to nobs as shoota boys to slugga boys. What do you do with shoota boys? You get them into assault! Gitz should be used the same way. Move up and unload your snazzguns as your moving forward. When your close enough, assault the other unit!

Bring da Boss
As your 'gitz will be assaulting, bringing a warboss with a PK is a great tide-turner, as your Gitz don't come with any klaws. The boss will also benefit from FNP as an added bonus.

Trimmin'z of da Gitz
The only real one worth a damn is the painboy, as it gives your unit FNP, which is very powerful on these models. They still go splat to high STR weapons, but survive a lot more vs. small arms fire and in assault.

While 'more dakka' seems appealing, the fact is that your increasing the average hits from ~3 to ~6. Given that you only have a 50% to get AP3 or lower, that is not really betting odds. Usually your 'gits will have 1-2 rounds of shooting before they are in assault. Your paying 50 points to kill ~3 MEQ is the way I look at it.

The other options skyrocket the cost of the gitz to quickly to really be valueable

Mo Ideaz
Got some Gitz models and don't want to play them. Use them as meganobs. Thier gun matches the TL shoota pretty well, and you can say they have force fields protecting them to give them the 2+ save. You also can custom some klaws onto them. They are 15 points more per model than gitz and a nice option if your stuck with the models.

I'm in agreement with you on this, I'm just wondering if anyone has tried some manner of transport strategy or something like that.

Labmouse has it all the way around.

A friend of mine built them in his Ork army originally before he had really gotten the hang of competitive 40k (nowadays he's a pretty killer GT player, and won a golden ticket). He used them in a few tournaments as he was learning, and was surprised at how well they sometimes did. It comes down to exactly what Labmouse said- if you give them FNP & keep them reasonably cheap, they're basically a unit of Nobs. They can survive surprisingly long and beat up a fair number of things in HtH. Now, that being said, would I recommend them over Nobs (or most other units)? No, not really. But if you don't over-spend on them, they can really surprise an opponent.

And there is that very very rare game when the dice gods smile upon you and you gun down whole units with ap1weapons without a single suicide by mek gun..

I had one (and only one) of these games (with 3 units, fully kitted up with all the options)- i was trying to run a fluffy pirates list ), where they and badrukk hit almost every time (never even used his ammo runtz) and just massacred a Space Wolves army, unit after unit after unit..

The rest of the Boyz just stood back and broke out the squig beer, basically...

What's kindof sad was that i was trying to get this new guy into the hobby, deliberatley taking suboptimal units and no tanks to give him a chance to see how awesome his new SW were, perhaps bend the likelyhood of winning a bit in his favour as an incentive to get into the game.

Instead we both just watched in awe as the Gitz totalled his army. He's still in the game, and loving his SW, but he's utterly terrified of my Gitz, and nukes them with everything he can if he sees them on the battlefield.

I don't use them that often, even against him, but i do love to watch him abandon his battle strategy utterly when my gitz pile out of a transport and shooting squad them with all he has..

I'm thinking of modding them with blindfolds and cigarettes, as they generally get scrubbed before they get to shoot these days..
