I came back to the game a couple of weeks ago. I grab the latest tyranid codex and rule book, dust off my old army and i was set.
Then i started reading about the nids on the net and i encountered some nice things that make go crazy but that i can find no evidence about in official rules like all synapse creatures would be immune to instant daeth!

Is there an official update about tyranids or simly something i miss intirely?

They had a codex come out in April last year or so? The book is quite a bit different. They've lost eternal warrior pretty much across the board, among dozens of other changes.

If you have the new Codex you've got pretty much 90% of everything GW has been willing to give in the way of support to another xeno race. Only thing you're missing is the FAQ. Good luck with that one by the way. Hope you like getting kicked in the junk. Repeatedly.

...and no you haven't missed any new models. Still. After the Blood Angels 2nd wave. When the Tyranids were released over half a year first. And need more models. And need actual new models instead of yet another loyalist dreadnaught and more dudes in power armor.

The current Tyranid book came out Jan-2010. It's undergone some pretty sweeping changes. Immunity to ID has been removed, and most units have been redone so that there are fewer options but often more of the old options are simply built in. This has worked with differing levels of success.


The newest models to come out for the Tyranids are the Hive Guard, Trygon, Pyrovore, Venomthrope, Death Leaper (actually a re-release of a splash release IIRC), new Raveners, and new plastic Gargoyles. Supposedly at some point there will be models for the Tyrannofex, Harpy, Tervigon and other units without models, but probably not for a while.

Overall Tyranids aren't a terrible army, but are sorta awkward and hard to balance right.

So with the latest codex (jan-2010) plus the latest FAQ i should be in business to make whatever best i can from the nidz right?
