Tell me if I missed anything.

IG

Parking Lot - as much AV14 as reasonable, maybe some artillery for punch

Meltavets - AV12 spam, vets with meltas in chimeras, and maybe with some tanks or artillery for punch.

Space Marines (Also applies to variant chapters. Listed in those chapters are things unique to them.)

Land Raider list - At least three Land Raiders with whatever you want inside. Could be termies, or maybe just tacs.

Rhino Rush - Rush rhinos with tacs. Vindicators are good.

Blood Angels

Razorback List of Death - Extremely shooty. Lots of 5 man assault squads in las/plas razorbacks, or maybe variation. Baals possible, vindis common and practical.

Stormraven (?) - Not very popular. Very fast, and 26" range of assault for a dred is nice, but for most people, three AV12 vehicles don't cut it. 4+ coversave for flat out helps, though. Very shooty, as well.

Space Wolves

Razorbacks? - I honestly don't know that much. I assume they can pull it off too.

Chaos Space Marines

Rhino Rush... of Chaos - being able to put beserkers in them helps quite a bit. All the same tanks.

Eldar

Mechdar - can go several different ways. Fireprisms can be maxed, S6 can be spammed, ore you can just put a lot of specialized units in transports. Firedragons useful - the better equivalent of meltavets. A lot of options are available. Eldar vehicles are really annoying for their saves, so utilize that, I guess.

Dark Eldar

Wych + Raider = Happy Fun Time - that's a lot of combat in a really fast list.

Ravager + Raider = Happy Fun Time - a heck of a lot of firepower, I guess.

In general, just massive close range firepower very quickly.

Orks

It's Painted Red - Battlewagon smash. Lots of close combat in an AV14 red vehicle, optionally with a really big gun. What's not to like? Burnas are good, too. And kitted out nobz. Oh yeah, Open Top.

Trukks (?) - Also unpopular. I dunno, it seems like it could be really cool, or kool, but I guess not.

Tau

Tau mech - Firewarriors in transports, Hammerheads, battlesuits. Lots of firepower.

Witch Hunters

I know next to nothing about. I hear they do a good rhino rush + exorcists + immolators. And I've run out of time.

Fill in the gaps if you like. Which rules the roost?

I dunno which is absolutely the best. I think that some armies can do lots of shooting transports with small squads inside: BA, SW, DE, IG, SM and Eldar. All those armies are quite different in details though, for example DE are better adapted to make an assaulting mech army than Eldar. And I think lists built around land raiders or battlewagons (usually carrying assault units) are very different from lists built around mechanised shooting units.

They all have disadvantages and advantages. There is no 'best' of anything in 40K.

Say you have an IG parking lot of Leman Russes w/ sponsons and artillery. You are hideously vulnerable to massive multi assaults that glance your vehicles to death (the worst result for your opponent is 'weapon destroyed'. Take the Dark Eldar with their fast, shooty army; it's hideously vulnerable to just about anything over S6-7. Space Marines match firepower with manoeuvrability, but pay for it with survivability.

Every faction you've posted is different and performs differently with its own set of drawbacks. Due to this there can't be one particular race who can best pull off mechanised, as there will be another race just as capable of countering it.

Ah. Shot down again. OK, howabout this is just a plus and minus catalogue of everything? I am obviously new, so such information would be quite useful. I don't get to get a game very often.

This is probably better. Ok, here goes:

Imperial Guard - strong, cheap tanks. Chimeras are arguably the best dedicated transport in the game. Powerful artillery. Vulnerable to multi-assaults, can have a congested deployment zone and thus suffer from a 'parking lot' which hightens their already large vulnerablity.

Space Marines/Space Wolves/Blood Angels - Razorbacks, Predators and Rhinos are a potent combination. Razorbacks marry speed with firepower quite well, but pay for it in durability. Struggle against armies packing lots of S8+ guns.

Dark Eldar - Raiders and Venoms. Fast, fast and fast. Strong default weapon(s), but speed rather than firepower is your best protection. Horrifically fragile. AV10, open-topped pretty much across the board.

Eldar - Wave Serpent is possibly the best 'pure' transport in the game due to excellent survivability. Over-reliance on Wave Serpents can lead to rather a boring, passive playstyle. Falcons are cool, but expensive.

Orks - Battlewagons are ace. AV14 coupled with a KFF and a huuuuge transport capacity means they can deliver a mass of boyz to the front pretty darned quick. Open-topped is essential to allow an assault post-disembark. Care must be taken to avoid showing the more vulnerable side armour. Trukks are fun, but need to be used in large numbers (6-7) to offset their massive vulnerability (see Dark Eldar)

Tau - Not seen these mechanised, someone else can help here maybe?

Daemon Hunters - Tri-Land Raider is the only internet list that is viable. Expensive and vulnerable to the huge amount of melta/lance weapons now floating around.

Witch Hunters - Rhinos and Immolators. See Space Marines.

I think that's all of them, and I could be wrong on a whole bunch of points, but this is just a quick run-down. I may extrapolate this a little later.

Agree with the comment about Eldar. My opponents are all very frustrated by my wave serpents, they are the toughest pure transport in the game (ie you can take them pretty much unrestricted - stormravens, vendettas etc take up slots and land raiders, where dedicated transports, are a different kettle of fish being so expensive) But I find that they cost so much for the firepower they provide, and the units you can put in them have no firepoints, that I end up playing on the defensive more than not.

With Tau, you can run a pure mech list, but obviously their strength lies in their suits. You could run at 1500pts three warfishes with 6 man FW teams, three kitted out railheads (DP, MT, TL), the essential Shas'el, and four piranhas with fusion blasters, targeting arrays, and DP.

Would be fun, the whole army shoots like fast vehicles and pumps out a lot of S5 shots while having fast melta, long range anti-tank, and 4+ cover saves everywhere. You could make the Shas'el a suicide HQ for melta-ing a LR after deep striking.

Just mentioning Black Templars in the LR spam department, as we can get LRCs as dedicated transports for our troops and kit them out with Blessed Hull. Ondoubtedly infernally expensive, but might catch your opponent off-guard, and Dark Eldar are going to hate you!
