My friends are claiming that monsterous creatures are infantry, I disagreed with them but I was hopping to get some help on whether that's rite or wrong.

no they're MC ... they do many things infantry do but they are 1000% MC

You can have models that are type: infantry, jump infantry, jet-pack, bike, jetbike, artillery and monstrous creature.

No model should be more then one type but they may follow some of another types rules.

My friends were citing a section in the rules in a grey box on the jump infantry page labled diffrent unit types, there reffering specificly to the first paragraph and say it also applie to jump infantry.

Please give us some more details. What's the situation and what rule are you referring to?

The Different Unit Types box you're referring to on p52 of the rulebook tells us that all the basic rules of the game which apply to infantry (the chapters on movement, shooting, assault, morale, etc.) all apply to these different unit types too, except where that unit has special rules giving exceptions. But they're still separate unit types- Infantry is not Jump Infantry; a Monstrous Creature is not Cavalry, etc.

They are referring to the first sentence of that box that says " So far the rules have just dealt with units that move around on foot - infantry."

Since this is after monterous creatures and the jump infantry sections they are saying this means everything listed before them is infantry.

Short version is MC are not infantry they are MC. They may move in a similar fashion but cant hold objectives and such...

Monstrous creatures move similarly to infantry, yes. They may have upgrades, rules or wargear that allow them to move differently, but if not they will move and assault up to 6".

This is not to say that they necessarily follow any other rules that Infantry do - for example their shooting rules are different and they damage vehicles differently in CC.

That doesn't make any sense. Jump Infantry don't move around on foot; so obviously that box isn't talking about MCs or JI. It's talking about all the rules sections before the "UNIT TYPES" section, p.51-55. That box also lets us know that if you have a unit in a codex that you're not sure about, it works as Infantry unless the codex says that the unit is some other unit type.

I suggest that you direct them to the first three paragraphs of the previous page, where it tells us that "Except for the rules detailed in this section for each unit type, these units follow the same rules as infantry."

This is not correct. See p.90. Any Troops unit which isn't a vehicle or a swarm can hold an objective, unless it has a specific special rule saying otherwise. Tyranids can take a Tervigons as Troops for each unit of Termagants they take, so they often have at least one Monstrous Creature which can hold an objective.

I understand how that particular line can be confusing, but it is really meant to be there as a transition between ideas than actual rules. The problem is it is referring to unit types that move 'on foot' and calling these 'infantry' but it is not really referring to the unit type infantry. Just the generic English term for soldiers who walk.

Also, I understand people have different levels of ability when it comes to writing, but it might be worth proof reading/pasting into word before you post. The title (for example) looks like you hit the adjacent 'i' instead of 'o' and someone stole your 'r'.

Certainly, but consider the context of the line I was quoting from the rules- the fact that JI usually don't around on foot is the main basis of their being a different Unit Type from Infantry.
