A faceoff against Chipstar's necrons! We decided to playtest a scenario for an upcoming tournament our local store is hosting. The scenario is as follows (to the best of my memory)
4 objectives placed around the center of the field- whoever has the majority of objectives gains 20 campaign points
A secret objective is rolled on (only the player knows it)- 1,2 keep ur HQ alive- 3,4 kill the enemy HQ- 5,6 ensure the death of you own HQ! (10 campaign points for completion)
The attacker deploys half of his force within 18' of the center point and goes first. The rest of his army comes in reserve from any table edge or the middle point.
The defender deploys at least 24' away from the center point

(2) Monolith

Turn 1
I split my units in an attempt to surround him and kill him off before his reserves come in
He deploys with his monolith blocking LOS from my shooters on the right side and warriors spread to defend the middle. A monolith, wraiths, and warriors in reserve.

The Game Begins! Chip opens up strong wrecking one of my predators with his Monolith blast!
" border="0" />

And........... Immobilizing my Terminator Land Raider before it's able to move.........

At this point things were looking pretty bad for Khorne- my left side was severly slowed by the immobilization of my land raider and my right was denied LOS by the monolith and the predator was toast.

I advanced forward and unloaded my berzerkers into his warriors, attempting to lock up his firepower and kill as many models as possible for a phase out.
" border="0" />

The berzerkers did well, dropping a hefy amount of warriors in the first round of combat- my confidence starts to return.

Turn 2
Then... he teleports his warrior squad out of combat. My lack of necron knowledge really bit me in the ass on this one- I didn't realize you could teleport while in CC. My berzerkers pay the ultimate price for my mistake.

" border="0" />
He shoots them up and cleans up the remaining with his wraiths. They're completely annihilated! My right side is in runes! The plague marines are holding in their bunker- but the bulk of his forces pushes towards them. I push forward as fast as possible on my left side to try and pull some pressure off my tattered right. The terminators/daemon prince/greater daemon make quick work out of a squad of warriors and wraiths and push onward. I shoot up the pariahs (land raider and predator) and finish them off.
" border="0" />

Turn 3
Chip misses his reserve rolls for his monolith and wraiths. I believe a squad of warriors enters in the middle position.
He pushes forward on the right side with his teleported HQ squad and a squad of wraiths. It's looking grim for the plague marines!

I push across the middle of the field with my beastly units and engage some warriors with my other daemon prince.
" border="0" />

Turn 4
My plague marines are annihilated by Chips HQ and Wraiths!
I push my land raider on to the objective to contest and move forward with my units as fast as I can.

" border="0" />

Turn 5
Chip's monolith/ wraiths come in automatically! His monolith moves to the northern objective and his wraiths outflank from the back side and are able to charge my CSM squad sitting on the objective. Thus contesting my only point!

My daemon prince tears apart a warrior squad, and the terminators move towards the remaining flayed ones/objective.

The die is cast, and, GAME OVER. Turn 5 ending. With neither of us holding any objectives. At this point we reveal our secret objective. Mine was to kill the enemy HQ. I was unable to do so and did not get any bonus points. Chip's objective was to keep his HQ alive. He gets the secret objective points!

NECRON VICTORY!

A tough loss for chaos. It was an up and down game- the first 2 turns I thought I had no chance- once I got my MCs in close combat things started to look a lot better, but I had already lost 2 of my troop choices, severely limiting my ability to cap objectives- a turn 6 would have most likely resulted in a phase out- but alas- I get the bitter taste of defeat.

Nice report. Maybe disembarking from the LR too soon hurt you.

Club me. Ain't I cute?

Yeah, I'm a little confused. You only needed to kill like, what, 20 models in order to force a phase out? I'm having a hard time seeing why that didn't happen. As best I can tell, either your opponent got VERY lucky in taking down your CSM, or he did a great job concentrating his forces while you did a terrible job concentrating yours, despite starting with all your stuff in the corner.

I seem to recall that this is what happened last time as well.

Yea, the berzerkers failed 7 out of 9 armor save rolls when they were shot. My forces were split and the left side was slowed by the immobilized LR. His wraiths outflanked from the back turn 5 to contest the objective my other CSM were holding and I couldn't take them down in time.
