So, my goods have finally started arriving. As some of you may have spotted elsewhere on the forums, I'm planning on attending the following events:-

Ketara wrote:My Dark Eldar are on their way out to me in the post as speak, and I'm now in the process of compiling a list of the various tournaments I intend to attend over the next six months. So if you're planning on going to any of these, let me know, and we can form a Dakka contingent to take the place by storm!

April:- 16th & 17th:- Brighton Warlords 40K Tournament:-1500 points (in Brighton)
May:- 15th:- Rapid Strike 2011:- (Reading, Berkshire)
June:- 11th&12th- Brighton Warlords 40K Tournament:- (in Brighton)
July:- 9th&10th July:- Weymouth Waagh (Weymouth, Dorset)
August:- 6th & 7th:- Brighton Warlords 40K Tournament:- (in Brighton)
September:- 17th-18th:- Starsmash 2011 (Reading, Berkshire)

I may also attend the various maelstrom campaign weekends throughout the year.

Now my Dark Eldar have finally arrived! Take a look at this photo. Isn't it a sight for sore eyes?

Now what I intend to do with this blog is not only post regular updates with regards to modelling and painting, but links to battles, army lists, fluff, photographs, and so on. In other words, everything to do with the creation of this army. So, with the space created in the P&M blog section, I shall begin my journey to making The Order of the Dark Charter feared throughout the UK!

Watch this space....

Congrats on getting your order! I trust it wasn't too much trouble in the end... Any hints as to colour scheme etc to get things started?

Wow. I've always wanted to do that - plan, buy and paint an army in one go. Instead I always piece it together from Ebay, random compulsive purchases, trades, etc. Good luck!

The Order of the Dark Charter wrote:
Whilst most areas of the Dark City are sectioned into the influences of the various Kabals, The Dark Spire is a notable exception to this rule. Located approximately three miles diametrically opposite the Tower of Flesh, that pulsating monstrosity that is the domain of the Haemonculi, the Dark Spire is an intimidating piece of architecture. Crafted out of black stone and steel girders, it shoots towards the sky, resembling nothing more than an immense skeletal claw grasping into open air. Covered in jagged crenellations, the Dark Spire is a physical symbol of the power of those who dwell within, the Order of the Dark Charter.

The Order of the Dark Charter is an ancient group, that predates the existence of the Kabals and succeeded in surviving in the fall of the Dark City's noble houses. In a similar fashion to the Haemonculi, the Order of the Dark Charter are indispensible to the order of well being of the Dark City, and this, combined with their lethality, has ensured their continued existence in a position of such power. Whilst Kabals, cults, and pirate lords come and go, the Dark Spire remains a constant power base and factor in the everlasting politics of Commoragh.

The Order of the Dark Charter possesses several means and methods of maintaining their power. Firstly, they function as a primary feeder of new recruits into the ranks of the deadly Incubi. Many of the highest Hierarchs began their lives as lowly Kabalite Warriors in the service of the Order. So much so, that some of the unique peculiarities of the Order have seeped through into their ranks over time. For example, all warriors of the Order of the Dark Charter are compelled to keep their word, no matter the consequences. In a fashion not too dissimilar to their Craftworld cousins, members of the Order also lead much more rigorously disciplined lives than those of their brethren in the Kabals, preferring instead to spend their time honing their skills. This makes them perfectly prime recruits for admittance to the ranks of the Incubi.

Secondly, the Order maintains very close relations to the Harlequins of the Webway. They have the greatest of respect for the history of the Eldar race, and often accompany Harlequins on excursions when requested, even bringing themselves to ally with their Craftworld brethren when the need is great. Unlike the Craftworld Eldar who try desperately to stave off the extinction of their race, or their more twisted brothers who inhabit the city and think only of their own depravity, the Order sees a time in the future when the Eldar may once again reclaim their place of greatness amongst the stars. It is this which they unceasingly work towards allying themselves with the Harlequins frequently in order to advance these aims. Indeed, for this reason alone, Vect has never moved against them, knowing that their goals and ambitions conflict not with his own.

Members of the Dark Charter wear a specific piece of headgear, a spherical helmet that encompasses many sorts of tracking sensors and communications gear. It also gives them an anonymous identity to outsiders, further enhancing their aloofness and power. Many of their Warriors also sport cloaks sewn together from scales taken from beasts of the Exodite worlds (another diverse group of the Eldar with whom the Order strives to retain close contacts with).

Warriors of the Order often offer their services to various Kabals and cults from time to time. When they do so, they don their helmets, and assume simply the title of 'Warrior of the Dark Charter'. They speak little, and instead seek to hone their skills on the field of battle other than those that the Order engages in. The contacts that they make on their travels serve the Order well when the time comes to manipulate the morasses of conflict in the Dark City. An Archon who is offered the services of a Warrior of the Dark Charter rarely refuses. Not only would it be seen as an insult to one of the most powerful organisations, the fact that a Warrior of the Dark Charter can be trusted to keep his word means that they possess considerable value as bodyguards, or spies amongst their own troops.

No-one knows what foul pacts have been made between the masters of the Flesh Tower, and those of the Dark Spire, but there is never a shortage of Haemonculi and fleshly monstrosities to accompany the Order to the Field of Battle. However, on raids initiated by the Haemonculi to seize prizes, samples, and slaves, the oath bound Warriors of the Dark Charter often accompany them, ensuing that no harm befalls their grotesque allies or their goals.

The Order of the Dark Charter is powerful, and feared across the Dark City. Their retribution swift and terrible, few are those who are eager to cross them. Fewer still are those who have, and have lived to tell the tale. However, in a place riven with deceit, doublecrossing and treachery, they often to prove to be the most reliable, and thus, valuable allies one can possess....

There's the background written up. You'll note now how any Dark Eldar player using those rather nice helmets in their army is now technically fielding a member of my Order.

And you shall see gentlemen.....

I was thinking about possibly grabbing some Corsair cloaks for my truebloods but I'm still undecided. How much filing down of the DE back do you have to do to make them hang properly?

I literally clipped a tiny bit off of the hips at the top so they joined with the underside of the armour plate, and the tab bit where the head is so I could get the DE head in. Took me two minutes.

It's a corsair torso isn't it? Oh and if you have enough of those heads to outfit an army you must have paid a fortune......

Oh dear, mods aren't supposed to advocate such behaviour surely? . I jest, of course, go for it. Was considering doing the same if i ever collect a guard army, had some previous experience casting in white metal the results were pretty good.

And they give you another lot of hanger-on passengers, so you can convert up some Wrack or Incubi passengers to help differentiate who's on what transport.

Nice fluff. They sound like Dark Biel-Tan (ally often with Exodites, focused on rebuilding the empire, aided often by Harlequins, highly disciplined lifestyle).

And wow does the Corsair cloak fit well on there! I'm now considering using those for Trueborn.

Okay gents, here's the colour scheme I've found and adopted.

As such, I've done all the base colours on a single Raider. The sails, guns, and crew are not currently attached, because I'm planning on magnetizing all these components for easier storage.:-

I've also undercoated my Wracks. You might wonder why they're on Warmachine bases, but the truth is that I'm currently waiting for a large order of dragonforge resin bases. As such, the warmachine ones are just something for me to hold them in whilst I paint the models. Once the resin bases arrive, I'll transfer them over.

Interesting choice of scheme, what are the wracks? Personally i would recommend a blue bodysuit for the warriors, i think perhaps the scheme is lacking a little colour. What are you using for a haemonculus?

The Wracks are Warmachine models, Cryx Cephalyx drudge mind slaves to be precise. I'm using the slaver who came with the pack as a counts as Haemonculus.

There are so many cybergoth DE armies running around at the moment, that I thought a flat grey colour scheme would make a welcome change.

I thought I'd show you gents a pic of one of my Wracks, currently 75% complete. Not liking how the red is looking, too bright. I'll need to dull it down methinks.

Looking forward to seeing the Mind Slaves completed. Been contemplating them for my own wracks, if I don't like what GW does with Wracks & Haemons.

Interesting background I might have to have another look at those Cephalyx models.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. I haven't really been updating this, but I thought I'd show you chaps my new custom Venom prototype. I'll have three of these knocked up and painted by next weekend for the Platinum Devil event! It's made solely with a Vyper and the spare bits off a Ravager (oh, and a flag from the Warrior sprue). I think it looks quite swank myself. It also gives me the choice of using it as a Razorwing/Voidraven once the new models come out.
