I got my self a nice little airbrush setup the other day and I have been lots of fun learning how to use it! Also I have spent lots of time on YouTube learning about how to use it but the one question I have is, what is the best way to get the paint out of the pot thin it and then into your paint cup?

Many people use Windex which I have found works really well. However I went to a local art supply store and picked up some Golden Airbrush Medium. I love this stuff its a 1:1 mix with GW and Reaper paints. So I use it as my thinning medium and use Windex and Createx as my rinse in between color changes.

Here's a link for the mediums I use.

Imo you should always mix in a separate, preferably clear, cup. For one it helps you see what your mixes always look like and get to know the proper consistencies better. I use a cheap synthetic brush to grab some paint from the GW pot and place it into the cup, then I add Liquitex Airbrush Medium and stir to see if I have a thin enough mix. If not I add more AB Medium. When it's right I pour it into (charge) the airbrush and get to work.

Yeah agreed, the mediums are really your best bet. Golden or Liquitex are both fine... they don't evaporate as fast as Windex or Alcohol so you can work longer / easier, with less difficulty. I do still use an alcohol / distilled water mix to clean my AB though.

Any one ever use a dropper to suck some paint out of the pot?

I used to but then I found it wasted SOOOOO much paint so now I used a tooth pic for GW pots, but have recently started converting to Reaper for all my airbrush colors.

You could but GW paint is so inconsistent... unless you thin it down in the paint pot first it won't be easy.

My trusty Testors (white handle, black bristle) synthetic is so perfect to grabbing paint and it cleans up so easy.

Here ya go, I would also suggest not using GW paints in an airbrush, their paints were not designed for it and it oftens clogs the needle of the airbrush, and is incredibly hard to get the consistency right. (don't get me wrong though, I have and still do use some GW paints through my airbrush, and it can be done, but it's just hard to do so without wasting paint).

I would also suggest Tamiya paints for airbrushing too, very simple to use and it takes very little thinner to get to a good consistency too.

So dose the Vallejo model air line have the same names as their model color line?

Citadel paints are easy to run through an airbrush and clog no more than any other acrylic paint, nor have I had any dramas getting the consistency of the paint right (it should be the same consistency with which you are painting read: skim milk). Tamiya are good, but they lack the colour range (sticking to more military colours) that we often see in 40k, so aren't always useful.

With all your acrylic paints you should strain them so you get rid of clumps, yes I know it is extra effort but it saves the hassle of having to pull your brush apart and clean it out before you can go again.
