Seen something akin to purity sealsor scrolls in illustrations of IG troops in new IG codex. Is that merely artistic license? Or is in keeping with the theme of 40K? I mean, are purity seals and scrolls just reserved for SM's body armor?

A purity seal certifies that the bearer (or the weapon) is free of the taint of the warp. It's perfectly characterful to have them.

I think some Vostroyan Firstborn models have Purity Seals on them.

The art for veterans have purity seals on them. Wouldn't put em on everybody, but officers, members of the command staff, and vets could get away with it.

Indeed. Only the command and veterans should have them. Possiably veteran sergents.

My IG HW teams get them on their weapons if they kill something particularlly big and scary. By that same line of modeling, veteran sergents who do well, might earn them as well.

Get creative with this. I also use the wolfs head medals from the middenhiel sprue (mordhiem) as a replacment for purity seals with my Praetorian IG.

banner carriers tend to have them as well.

I do the same as the other posters. I stick 'em on to models that do well . My army of vets of 3 plasma per squad are well decorated; both them and their holy weapons of meq killyness.

I dont really see scrolls as being fluffy though. Whenever I see a scroll I think wow that marine wrote down every world, race and traitor hes ever crushed on it, but even vets dont live that long enough. Yeah I know that the hanging scrolls probably contain religious scriptures but not in my 40k (insert happy face here)

as I understand it, purity seals are like the present day incarnation of oaths of moment, and thus fluff-wise I'd say they're reserved for Space Marines.

But if there are IG models made by GW that have them already on them...How could that make sense?

Or you could have an ecclesiastical guard army. I saw one done up once that was very fluffy. Witch hunter inquisitor, silver, gold and white colored, full compliment of eviscerator priests.

The guy plastered everything with purity seals, and it actually looked rather good.

ok ok 1 question.

In real life, does a purity seal actually DO anything?

I mean its not like a CSM is gonna get "scared" by a purity seal you wear on your shirt right?

Probably not. I would imagine that the CSM would see it as his duty to rip it off and wipe is *bleep* with it.

Oddly enough, purity seals in my army seem to guarantee damage. I put purity seals on my priests' eviscerators and they constantly kill themselves in explosions. Since I put purity seals on my stormtrooper plasma guns, when they arrive they always get 3 hits and one overheat. The 3 hits usually kills something, and the overheat guy always fails his armor save.

It's like adding them is a sure sign that something's going to die, whether you or them.

Hmm... If I ever decide to model up some deathstrikes, I think I need to cover them with purity seals for maximum damage...

LOL, yeah, it does seem that way sometimes. Do you give them for reasons (killing tanks, holding out against the odds, stuff like that) or just slap them on where they look cool? I've found that this makes all the difference.
