Looking far ahead on this one; I want to bring a lot of punishment to the table. For once, I'm thinking about setting my dirty tricks and schemes aside, and bringing out the rabid fury. Tell me what you think:

1 Vermin Lord (500)
1 Chieftain + battle standard + Charmed Shield + Talisman of Preservation (120)
1 Warlock Engineer + level 1 + Dispel Scroll (90)

45 Clanrats + shields + full command (222.5)
45 Clanrats + shields + full command (222.5)
50 Skavenslaves + Musician (102)
50 Skavenslaves + Musician (102)

7 Gutter Runners + Poisoned Attacks + Slings (126)
6 Rat Ogres + 3 Packmasters (264)

1 Hell Pit Abomination + warpstone spikes (250)

Total: 1999
Models: 210
Fortitude: 5

The idea is to eat stuff. Hard. I guess. Big blocks to add some ranks and negate steadfast. The Engineer is mainly there for a little extra magic defense, but with just a few extra points I could get a Priest. Would 6 Gutter Runners and a few less Clanrats be worth the upgrade? What are this list's major weaknesses?

Its a nice and somewhat different list!
Nice to see the vermin lord included!
Should be mean next to the hell pit and rat ogres.

I cant really help much as i have just returned from many years away from warhammer.
I would think though that your army could really benefit from the storm banner, even more so than "regular" skaven armies, in that you dont have any of the shooting choices included, and could really use the protection against cannons etc and missile troops as your horde and monsters rush in!

Should be a fun army to play with, id think

You should check your math, you're at 2007. Looks like you'll need to drop a little bit to be legal.

Can your Vermin Lord be your general? For some reason I'm thinking he can't be... If not, then your general is a Ld.5 Warlock Engineer who is just begging to be axed early on.

Vermin Lord can not be the general.

Kirbinator: seems that I dropped the Slave champions but forgot to note that. Thanks for spotting the inevitable typo.

Yeah, the general would be the Engineer, who, oddly enough, is more of an afterthought than anything else.

Honestly, it seemed that the Inspiring Presence rule was the least useful ability in the list, so that's where I made cuts. I don't think losing my general would be that big of a deal (especially since he'll probably get overlooked), but I guess I could drop the Scroll and two rats to give him a 5+ Ward.
Or I could toss out the Engineer all together and go with another Chieftain with a 3+/5+. But I'm not sure if one lvl4 is going to cut it (if it won't, though, I doubt a lvl1 will help that much). What do you guys think?

First off, nice refreshing list, reminds me of the skaven I ran for about 10 months after the new book hit. Rapid fury > tricksy tricks in my book

On the VL, I was fine at 2k with a chieftain general and no back up engineer - vermy's plague spells were so legit I couldn't care less about a little lightning, and the scroll I dealt with not having. At 2400-2500 I went with a budget warlord general and a scroll caddy to back up The V-Man.

I'm honestly not really sure what to say about this list. I can see how it'd work in theory, but my mindset of Skaven involves tricksy things like suicide engineers and such. I'd like to try it out against my Dark Elves just to see how things go!

I'm with you on the trix. I usually try to get a little bit of underhandedness, and a touch of overwhelming force, but I'm thinking I might go for something...different.

Here's a thought: I could drop the Ogres and get some Plague Monks with the Storm Banner. I could either get a Priest to lead them, or a Chieftain somewhere else by dropping the Engineer. I'm thinking something like:

1 Chieftain + shield + Dragon Helm + Foul Pendant (87)
1 Warlock Engineer + Doom Rocket (45)

44 Clanrats
44 Clanrats
49 Slaves

6 Gutter Runners
25 Plague Monks + full command + Storm Banner (250)

I think the Monks would fit a different roll than the Ogres, Lord, or A-bomb normally does, and the Banner would be nice, but 25 guys feels awfully small. I could always just drop the Engineer and bulk it out again...
