Never saw the show before last night and, unless the bring back the campaign, I don't intend to again.
I saw the commercials and, being the big D&D geek that I am, I watched it. The asian guy as a Drow was hilarious. I wish he'd been on longer.
Overall, the show seemed haphazardly written, and the characters were rather... boring. Even Chevy, sadly.
Show characters, that is. Not the D&D characters.
I love that they pulled it back into the mainstream. Even moreso that it was SECOND EDITION, BABY!
When he pulled out the module, I actually stopped the DVR to look at it. I was like, "I've never heard of that one. Must've made it up for the show."
Overall, I enjoyed it, but it won't make me a fan of the show.

It would help to make judgements of characters by watching more than one show. There were probably a ton of jokes you missed becuase you don't watch it regularly as well as not understanding all the characters motivations.
That being said, Senior Chang is always awesome.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
You may well be right (about not knowing the characters).
The script & the acting were so horrible to me, though, that I couldn't possibly see myself trudging through another episode.
The only thing that kept me in this one to the end was AD&D.

Right there with you.
MagicalMemories doesn't know what he is missing.
Hey, MM. If you do decide to give Community another watch check out the "Modern Warfare" episode. It is considered one of the funniest of the series and has some great references to 28 Days Later and The Warriors.
As for the D&D episode I loved it. I chuckled when Abed made the comment that only the Dungeon Master got to roll dice. That would never fly in any of the groups I play with.

That was a plot device to move the narrative along for a mainstream audience.

Yeah, I understood why they did it, I just had a laugh when it happened in the show. Truth be told I wouldn't mind sitting in on a one-off game with that mechanic in play. It really would be like listening to an interactive story.
My parents kept asking "Is that REALLY how DnD is played?"
The "Paintball" episode and the "Zombies" are by fare highlights of the whole series. Tent city was also amazing. Overall, the series is well worth your time.

Maybe some people are put off that Chevy Chase's grouse is so bombastic that he
can overshadow the other characters.
Then Chang steps in, and Changs things up a little.

Is that supposed to be how you envision me acting when I see the show, or how I'm making you feel? LOL If it's the former; Nah. Just wasn't for me. If it's the latter; My apologies. Not trying to be curmudgeony.

Okay. That DID make me laugh. I admit it.
It's just one of those things that, when you see it, you know it's just not for you. You know?
It's like Glee, American Idol, Survivor or any other show. You can usually tell by one episode if it's going to "work" for you.
I certainly don't want to give the impression that I'm trying to disrespect you guys for having bad taste different tastes in TV shows than me.

It was my reaction. I've been watching the show since the pilot. Really it was just an excuse to post a funny picture. It is perfectly reasonable that not everyone is going to like the same things. While I disagree with your assessment, I don't begrudge you having your own opinion on it.

You should watch the paintball episode from Season 1. Best TV I've seen in YEARS.

I watched on hulu.com Saturday night. It is the first episode that I have watched of this show. I liked it, might even watch some more especially since I was asking for shows the other day.
