Space Marines have a ton of cool factor built into them. The name is easy to relate to and understand. It is great to have a really strong army that sets the standard for other armies to measure themselves against. It is a great marketing ploy, and should always be emphasized by GW.

Does anyone agree?

I agree! Back in the late 80's when I was a kid, my imagination would run super wild with the images and minitures. I didn't play back them, but did buy and model the minitures and wished on many nights, that I could understand the rules.

If I only knew then what I know now...

I think they should be emphasized as it's an easy army to start and bring people in. However I do not feel they should be half of the total playable armies. (7/14)

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

So OP does this thread's counterpart's popularity and eventual locking do anything for you?

I just wish some xenos armies could get even 10% of the attention SM's get from GW.

Maybe its a social experiment. The "the worst thing about 40k is Space Marines" thread was started within 10 minutes of the posting of this thread. That got to 12+ pages, a load of hating on Space Marines, and the Guard Fluff War (of which I was a part of) before it was locked yesterday.

This thread has gotten.....four posts before a.) it was forgotten, and b.) it was brought back.

"I went into a hobby-shop to play m'self a game,
The 'ouse Guru 'e up an' sez "The Guard is weak and lame!"
The Chaos gits around the shelves they laughed and snickered in my face,
I outs into the street again an' grabbed my figure-case."
Oh it's "Angels this" an' "Space-wolves that", and "Guardsmen, go away!";
But it's "Thank you for the ordnance" when the Guard begins to play,
O it's "LOOK AT ALL THE ORDNANCE!" when the Guard begins to play.."

That's pretty obvious. Guy wanted to prove whether there was more hate or love out there for our little Power Armored heroes. A poll could have accomplished the same without all the drama and rancor.

Yes, but I think it proves a flaming troll thread gets a lot more hits than a postive one.

One possible interpretation of the data. Another is that a lot of people simply don't like marines. I'm inclined to believe the latter.
