I painted this Wave Serpent a while ago.
However as there was a painting competition around here I decided to improve on it a little.
I kind of like it so thought I'd share. It was my first attempt at freehanding a picture onto any model.
There was also a little more experimenting going on with it as well as I worked on it more for the competition. Mostly it was the windows, the base (built up from nothing but sand and super glue), the
OSL of the engines and also trying something new with the gems; which was painting them basically the same as I had for a while, but with the colour kind of bleeding out the back as if the light was going through it. It didn't work out on all of it, but I liked the effect after a while.
This is the one part I'm not too fond of, painting trees. Always kind of sucked at it and really if I were to do it again I'd probably do more of a plains landscape instead of it.
As it was for my first painting comp I went as far as highlighting the underside of the vehicle as well.
The bone on the underside here could use a bit of work, funny though that you can't see it until it's in a picture.
This is where I think the new technique I tried out on the gems worked out the best. On the top side it was mostly too faint for it to really be seen.
I didn't win the competition though, but I'm not bothered by it I learnt a bunch of stuff that I like the look of and that's good enough. The winner of the category I entered was actually a really nice Doomwheel.
