So if i had some kroot in a forest they would get a 3+. If they got assaulted would they be able to use their cover save? Also if they went to ground and made it a 2+ would they get a cover save?

No you cannot use a cover save in close combat (unless you're hit by a shooting attack but that's rare) ... see page 39 'taking saves' for more information.

You do get the benefits of being assaulted through cover. Except of course that almost all non Tyranid assaulty units will have assault grenades.

Even Imperial Guardsmen get assault grenades. To be honest, I have never had to use the 'assault through cover' rules in any game, ever. ....Well actually once, when I had a couple Hormagaunts go nom my CCS in a watchtower.

It's still a very rarely used rule though, so some people might forget about it.

Terminators and monstrous creatures (that arent Carnifex) are the normal recipients of "sorry, you dont get grenades"

The Tyranid codex is a recipient of it. Carnifex have the option to buy assault grenades, but they're worthless. :/

Exactly they only strike at I3 and if you give them crushing claws (which you should) then they strike at I1 anyway.

You're being a bit cheap not giving them the adrenalin gland. They can strike at I4 and str10 ...

Also, (totally off topic...) why in the name of ze lord would you give them chrushing claws?
It ignores one of the better rules of the fex (even worse when you have glands), talons are nearly equal in combat, and if you're going to spend points swapping them out, why not give them a ranged weapon instead?

If I use -><- I'm not mocking you, it's a reflex from using the " silly" icon on every other forum.
However, if I use this -><- I might just mock you.
