I want to make a diorama of a Dread having a temporary leg attached by a Techmarine. The story is that the leg was blown off in battle, and the Techmarine is quickly welding on the temporary leg so the Dread can keep fighting.

I was thinking of using part of a Sentinel leg as the 'temporary leg', like the Techmarine was using salvaged it from a downed Sentinel on the battlefield. My other thought was to use a random piece of metal, maybe part of a tank trap as a crude peg leg. Maybe it was to only suitable material in that area of the battle field.

What do you think? I'm open to other ideas too.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm well while I can see the nessesity for emergency field repairs the fluff would sugest that a dreadnought sarcophogus is a very rare and sacred relic to the techpriest, battles have been fought just to recover the debris of a destroyed Dreadnought for rebuilding/spare parts.

The techmarine would likely only do a temporary botch job in an extreamly dire situation. Have you thought of having the dreadnought hanging on to a wall or something similar to support its weight while the tech marine weilds the leg back together you could also use some muzzleflash effects to show that even during repairs the dreadnought is still helping to fight the battle. I'd think the imperial guard sentinel leg would be the wrong size scale for a dreadnought. maybe (sacralige warning) A Killer kan leg would work better or a deff dread leg

I totally agree a Techmarine would only do this in the direst of circumstances.

The way I'm imagining it the Dread's leg was completely destroyed, vaporized by plasma fire. The Techmarine would only be adding the peg leg as a temporary fix, until he has access to a proper replacement.
. . . you could also use some muzzleflash effects to show that even during repairs the dreadnought is still helping to fight the battle.

Excellent suggestion, I'm going to use it.

I was planning on just using the bottom section of the leg, hopefully it will be the right size.

If you are going to make it a diorama, you should add some marines defending the techmarine while he does his work, along with some (insert heretic or xenos scum here) attacking to add a sense of urgency

I think I've found a solution for you.

Step 1: get hold of a Leman Russ Hull -or Rhino-, some plasticard and modeller's chain. -Yes, you're building a Atlas Recovery Tank.-

Step 2: Have the dreadnoughts legs modelled in such a way that one is spread out from under the chassis, and the other stands a little bit further away -less then an inch from the Dreadnought would suffice- And have some chains attached to the power plant on his back and/maybe have his fist holding the chain.

Step 3: Add a Techmarine and a servitor which holds a spare Dreadnought leg, and add a squad of marines in a circle around the whole shenannigan, fighting of whatever heretic/xeno scum they might be fighting.

I think adding an orky leg would capture the idea of completely urgent scrapjob very nicely, but since you're going for a diorama I would go with the idea of the dreadnought continuing to fight while there is a ring of SM around the dread while the techmarine is in the process of fixing the leg.

@FerrumIgnatus: I can't speak for the OP, but I think that's getting away from the spirit of it and probably going a little overboard.

@OP: I think you should have the techmarine welding an Iron Girder or a large piece of structural steel as a peg leg, and possibly have space marines/IG helping hold the dread up.

I 2nd this idea, in the middle of a full on battle against aliens, you just make do with what you got around you.

I think that whoever added xeno tech to a dread would get Deathhammered by the Emprah.

Yeah, I dont think that they would do that, Xeno Tech and all, which they are forbidden to use and must destroy when they come across. Kinda stupid really, considering many races are better tech advanced than IoM
