I've been looking through alot of the blood angels armies and seeing lots of different shades of red. Is it acceptable to go with a darker shade of red than a lighter shade of red?

Of course it is. I'm doing a deeper, darker red on my BA army right now and think it looks a lot better than the comical bright red the codex shows. It's all about personal preference so you paint it however you want.

you don't just have to go with blood angels either, they have cool schemes (flesh tearers are one of my favorites). As far as blood angels go, as long as it's a shade of red it's good.

I paint mine a darker shade of red and do a little black wash to make them look a little more battle hardened. I'm happy with the results.

If you have the Codex take a look at the Angels Vermillion, they have a darker red colour to them.

On mine i use a 1:1 Mix of VGC Gory Red and VGC Bloody red, not too bright but just how i like it
