This battle was my first back after returning to the game (see sig). My opponent allowed me to use some proxies and incomplete models, so it would have been ugly pics to post. I decided not to photograph it, but the points were low enough, it was easy to explain.

Eldar list: (sorry I don't know Eldar well)

Farseer w/ power sword, fortune, doom and some other war gear

Farseer w/ witch blade, some psychic powers

10 Dire Avengers

10 Dire Avengers

5 Dark Reapers

4 Dark Reapers and Exarch (??) with a rocket launcher and some re-reoll ability

Tyranid list (me)

1 Terragon w/ Catalyst

10 Termagaunts

13 Hormagaunts

20 Devilgaunts
1 Spore w/ Deathspitter

2 Zoanthropes
1 spore w/ Deathspitter

6 Ymgarl Genestealers (hiding in one of the 2 buildings)

6 Ymgarl genestealers (hiding on the big hill)

We played Dawn of War. Eldar placed and went first

Eldar side of board: He had 2 buildings. He placed the Dire Avengers in front of the buildings.

Tyranid: I had a ruined church and a big hill on my side. I placed the Hormies, Termines, and Tervagon on the board on my side. I wasn't able to get much cover on the 1st turn.

Turn 1: Eldar:

He moved up the Avengers and used his psychic powers. Due to night fighting, he wasn't able to do much. 2-3 termagaunts died. The reapers came onto the table.

Tyranids

I moved up. I forgot to spawn gaunts (dummy!!) and forgot to use Catalyst (dummy again!!) The hormies moved into the ruined church to get cover. The tervagon killed 2 avengers with his stinger salvo

Turn 2: Eldar

The avengers and farseer moved back. He cast psychic abilities and shot at my tervagon, downing it with the reapers. He shot into the hormies, making them flee. His shooting against the gaunts did little.

Tyranids:

I rolled reserves and got my building stealers and zoanthropes. The stealers popped out and fleeted into position to assault both squads of reapers (they were right next to each other). The zoanthropes fired on the avengers, killing 2. The pod fired on the other squad, killing 2.

In the assault phase, the stealers wiped out the reapers and consolidated back into the building.

Turn 3: Eldar
He moved back his dire avengers into the building and shot down the stealers. His other avengers shot then assaulted my zoanthropes, doing 1 wound.

Tyranids:

The rest of my reserves came in, giving me stealers on a hill near the avenger/zoanthrope battle and a pod of devilgaunts right next to the other avenger.

The stealers wiped out the avengers except for the character. The devilgaunts finished off the other squad.

Result: Tyranid slaughter!!!

His mistakes:

He sunk too many points into upgrades and psychic powers on his psychers. He also deployed 2 squads of reapers too near each other, allowing a double assault. In short, he saw the monster and got greedy thinking about how easily he could kill it.

My mistakes:

I forgot to spawn gaunts and use my catalyst. The zoanthropes weren't the best choice either. I expected him to bring at least 1 vehicle, which he didn't. My gaunts (other than the devilgaunts) did nothing except stop bullets.

Why this victory was important to me:

I have never beaten Eldar in a one-on-one battle. Ever. Tau either, but I want another chance. Also it being my first battle after not gaming for 3+ years, I didn't expect to win.

Record:

8th edition:
Tyranids: 5-4-3
Orks: 4-2-1

5th edition

Orks:18-5-1
Tyranids: 17-10-4

6th edition

Tyranids: 6-4-1
Orks: 3-1-0

Somewhere in south-central England.

Nice. I like 1,000 point games.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Spawning Termagants is the main point of having a Tervigon. If you get good luck you can spawn 20-30 extra models during the course of the game.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Hrm, that eldar list has severe problems.

Two farseers at 1k points, squads of 10DA without exarchs, and I believe that the dark reaper exarch is also an auto-include with his squad and the regular reapers are not nearly worth their points so the recommended squad is 2 regular reapers and an exarch... and it isn't a good unit even then.

That's one of the strangest eldar lists I've ever seen this lifetime.

I actually like that tyranid list....alot.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole
