I have a handful of mekboys from an earlier edition. They are next in line for me to paint. I am looking through the 5th edition codex, and am only seeing big mek. Here are the boys I have. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Mekboyz_miniatures. Is there any way to use them in the 5th edition rules? Do I just call them boys? Would they be able to function as meks?

The only options for using a Mek in the current codex are as a Big Mek, or as part of a Loota or Burna squad.

I THINK... Not 100%, at work at codex is at home but...
I think there is a Big Mek, which I think is an HQ with a KFF, or Shokk Attak Gun... Or you can have a mek boy in a burna or loota squad... again check the codex for sure...

Sorry for the bad link, not sure why it did that. This is a link to the images page. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/File:Wd132_mekboyz.jpg
I don't have any burnas or lootas, and big meks are expensive. Can I put them with dreads or kans? I am at work on my phone, so I can really look at my codex ATM.

You could covert them a bit more and give them bigger guns to call them flash gitz. Not really any use for regular meks in the current codex.

Regular Meks can be found in Burna & Loota squads in the current codex...those are your only two options.

You could easily use them as either an HQ slot for a Big Mek, or drop some cash on a loota/burna squad and use them as part of a Elite slot. The base Big Mek only has a slugga/shoota and choppa. So the models are a better representation of a Big Mek than anything else. To answer your question about attaching them to a Deff Dread or Kan unit... Well in 5th you can't attach IC to vehicle units, and there isn't an option to buy them in the unit upgrade section. So your outta luck on that one too.

Which doesn't stip you from walking one along behind the Dreads/Kanz using them as cover while you perform field repairs, but it will make the Mek a tad vulnerable..

Brings up a question:

Can the SW IC Bjorn the Fell Handed (who is a vehicle) join vehicle units?

No, because he isnt an IC.

HQ does not necessarily make you an IC.

And in case you need another reason to disallow it, the rules for IC say that they never join vehicle squadrons or units that always consist of only one model (which would be every other vehicle, plus a few other units).

Fair enough.

I'll need to have a quiet word with my usual SW opponent then, as he's fond of joining him to units...
